It is world Cancer Day 2026
This year's theme is "United by Unique"

Cancer is a diverse disease condition whereby abnormal cells grow out of control, invading healthy tissues and spreading to other parts of the body.

Cancer is caused by genetics mutations (inherited) or acquired mutations (to***co use, infections like HPV and hepatitis, UV and X-ray radiations and environmental toxins.

Most common cancers include blood, breast, colorectal, lung cancer and prostate cancers.

Early detections and treatment are important in cancer therapy

It's World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day 2026!

NTDs are a wide range of disease conditions that affects over 1 billion people globally.These individuals are mostly found in disadvantaged areas, vulnerable communities, and low-income regions with scarce healthcare and basic services.

Some of the NTDs include leprosy, filariasis, fascioliasis, helminthiasis, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis and trachoma They are preventable, treatable and can be eliminated.

Be part of a safer world! Report suspected cases and encourage healthy habits in vulnerable communities.

Cervical cancer is preventable!

Girls aged 9-14 should get vaccinated against Cervical cancer.

Women above 30 are generally advised to screen for cervical cancer.

According to the Ministry of health, Cervical cancer which is caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) and marked by uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells in the cervix is the second most common cancer among Nigerian women and is responsible for about 7000+ death annually.

Risks factors includes HPV infection, early sexual activity, multiple sexual partners, STIs, smoking, family history and long term use of oral contraceptives

Prevention includes maintaining a healthy lifestyle, regular screening (pap smear, HPV testing or visual inspection with acetic acid) and HPV vaccination recommended for girls aged 9-14 year.

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases caused by bacteria, parasites and viruses, affecting about 1 billion people globally.

They are mostly found amongst the world's poorest population with little or no access to healthcare, inadequate sanitation, and clean water.

Some NTDs includes; human African trypanosomiasis, chagas disease, buruli ulcer, scabies, rabies, leprosy, noma, lymphatic filariasis etc.
