VC Pledges Collaboration as Code of Conduct Bureau Advocates Asset Declaration

The Vice-Chancellor of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability through collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Professor Alabar gave this assurance on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, when he received the Benue State Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Bem Bartholomew Anande, during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the University Management would provide the necessary platforms to facilitate staff compliance with asset declaration requirements as prescribed for public servants. He noted that such collaboration would not only strengthen institutional integrity but also deepen ethical standards across the University community.

Earlier, Mr. Anande explained that the visit was both to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment and to sensitize the University Management on the importance of asset declaration, including its mandatory renewal every four years.
He emphasized that asset declaration remains a constitutional obligation designed to promote transparency, accountability, and honesty in public service.

The State Director further assured that the Bureau would adopt a partnership-driven approach in its engagement with the University, stressing that it would neither coerce nor intimidate staff. Instead, he said the Bureau would focus on sustained sensitization efforts to encourage voluntary compliance.

MOAU Library Seminar Highlights Impact of Social Media on Students’ Academic Success

The Library and Information Services of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU), Makurdi, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, hosted its 19th Monthly Seminar Series at the Window on America, attracting participants from across the University community.

Delivering the keynote lecture, the Guest Lecturer, Dr. Angbande Dennis Pira, presented a paper titled “Personal Variables and Utilization of Social Media for Academic Purpose among Undergraduates in Tertiary Institutions in Benue State” In his presentation, he examined how both individual and environmental factors influence students’ engagement with social media for academic purposes.

Dr. Pira noted that students’ attitudes toward social media, alongside their family structure and background, significantly determine how effectively they utilize digital platforms for learning. According to him, these variables often shape whether social media is used productively for academic advancement or merely for entertainment.

He further emphasized that non-cognitive factors—particularly personal disposition and social environment—play a crucial role in students’ academic use of social media. He stressed that family upbringing and background greatly influence how students perceive and deploy digital tools in their studies.

The Guest Lecturer recommended the deliberate cultivation of positive attitudes toward integrating social media into academic life. He maintained that when properly harnessed, social media platforms can enhance learning outcomes, promote collaboration, and improve access to information among undergraduates.

In her remarks, the University Librarian, Professor Innocent Isa Ekoja, represented by the Deputy Librarian, Professor Nancy Ngunan Ugbagir, commended the Guest Lecturer for delivering an insightful and thought-provoking lecture. She described the topic as timely, considering the growing relevance of digital technologies in contemporary education.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the April Seminar Series and Head, Department of Psychology, Dr. Aondoaver Ucho, alongside the Head, Department of Library and Information Science, Professor David Aju, applauded the presenter for his scholarly contribution. They noted that the seminar has significantly enriched ongoing discourse on the effective utilization of social media in tertiary education.

The Provost, College of Health Sciences, Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, Professor Andrea Avershima Ornguze, witnessed the official handover of project sites to contractors for the Federal Government’s TETFund Special High Impact Intervention Projects 2025.

The event, which took place on Tuesday, 21st April 2026, was attended by the Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Professor Joseph Orkuma, who represented the Provost. The exercise marks the formal commencement of the implementation phase of the 2025 TETFund High Impact Intervention, a ₦4 billion Federal Government initiative benefiting 18 Colleges of Health Sciences across the country.

Notably, Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, is the only state-owned institution selected for this intervention. This milestone achievement has been attributed to the visionary leadership of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the commitment of the Executive Governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, whose administration continues to prioritize the advancement of healthcare education. Their efforts are particularly geared toward strengthening training in Dentistry, Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Nursing Sciences, and Pharmacy.

During the exercise, several project sites were formally handed over to contractors. At the Department of Nursing Sciences, the projects include the remodeling of lecture halls, demonstration laboratories, and the Public Health Laboratory. At the College of Health Sciences, works will cover the remodeling and furnishing of lecture and seminar rooms in the new TETFund building, furnishing of Auditoriums I and II, refurbishment and furnishing of laboratories in Biochemistry, Human Physiology, and Pharmacology, as well as the expansion of Lecture Halls A, B, and C to accommodate larger student populations.

At the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), the scope of work includes the rehabilitation of the multipurpose laboratory for dual use as a lecture theatre and laboratory, remodeling and furnishing of clinical seminar rooms, and the conversion of the cafeteria into a 500-capacity lecture hall. This facility will feature a partition system to allow for flexible use as two separate lecture theatres accommodating 250 students each.

Additionally, a designated site was handed over for the construction of a modern Dentistry Clinic. The contractors, having received full mobilization, are set to commence work immediately in line with the directive of the University Governing Council. The Directorate of Physical Planning of the University has been mandated to supervise the projects to ensure strict adherence to institutional standards and contractual specifications.

Following the handover exercise, the Consultant, contractors, Provost, Dean of Basic Clinical Sciences, and the Coordinator of Physical Planning paid a courtesy visit to brief the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, on the progress and next steps.
