BCG Vaccination Sore
👉Easy Guide for Parents

The BCG vaccine helps protect your child from tuberculosis (TB).
After the injection, it is normal for a small sore to appear on the skin.

🕒 How the sore develops
• A small sore usually appears 2–4 weeks after vaccination.
• It takes 2–4 months to fully heal and leave a small scar.
• If the sore appears very quickly (within a few days), contact the clinic — this may be an unusual reaction.

👀 Check the sore regularly
• Look at the sore every day.
• Take a photo once a week to track healing.
• Compare with normal healing pictures (if provided) to be sure everything looks okay.

🧼 How to care for the BCG sore

• Keep the area clean and dry
• After bathing, pat gently — don’t rub
• Keep it uncovered as much as possible
• Do NOT use Band-Aids or plastic dressings
• Do NOT apply creams or ointments

If the sore oozes, you may place a piece of loose, sterile gauze over it. Tape only the edges, and make sure air can still get in.

Your child can continue all usual activities:
• baths
• showers
• swimming
• sports
