Hypertension means repeatedly elevated blood pressure exceeding 140 over 90mmHg (millimeter of mercury). Blood pressure is the force with which blood pushes against the walls of the arteries as it flows through. Systolic reading is the pressure at which the heart pumps blood around the body while diastolic is the pressure as the heart refills with blood.
