Our HelpMum state officer in Osun State, Ajagbusi Omobobola, visited 10 primary health centres across Edunabon, Moro, Ipetumodu, and nearby communities to drive adoption of the HelpMum Vaccination Tracker app and our chatbot, Mamabot and Vaxbot.

During their antenatal clinic and immunization sessions, mothers were sensitized on how to easily track their children’s vaccines and access relevant information to support their pregnancy journey, all from their phones via our chatbot and the app.

We’re thrilled to be featured in African Collaborative’s latest report, Fueling Transformation!

Our journey is proof of what’s possible when African problems are tackled by Africans. With our suite of AI-powered innovations, we’ve reached over 500,000 mothers in just two years, expanding access to vital health information and vaccination guidance across Nigeria and beyond.

The report captures how locally-driven solutions can tackle complex health challenges and scale impact sustainably through trust-based, long-term philanthropy (check page 29 for case study on HelpMum).

We’re going to South Africa!

Our abstract has been selected for oral presentation at the 4th International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA 2025), happening in Durban this October.

Our paper, Evaluating the effectiveness of fine-tuned and base language models in maternal health and vaccination guidance in Nigeria, 2025, was selected from over 4,000 submissions across the continent.

The study explored how AI performs when trained on locally curated clinical data. We developed and tested two open-source large language models—HelpMum MamaBot-Llama for maternal health and HelpMum Vax-Llama for vaccination—and compared their performance against a standard global AI model.

If you’ll be attending and would like to connect with the HelpMum team to learn more about the work we do serving women and children in underserved communities, we’d love to meet you too.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria! 🇳🇬

Today, as we celebrate 65 years of nationhood, we also celebrate the resilience and strength of mothers and children across the country.

Back in 2016, Nigeria (18%); India (15%); Pakistan (7%); Indonesia (5%); Ethiopia (4%); and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (3%) accounted for half of the world’s zero-dose children.

Today, these countries are making important strides, from expanding vaccine campaigns to adopting innovative tools, with the aim to close the immunization gap and ensuring every child is protected.

At HelpMum, we are proud to be part of this effort in Nigeria through our digital innovations and clean birth kits, bringing us closer to a future where no child is left behind💚

Our brilliant Dr. Angelica Obayi was among the Nigerian delegates at the 2nd ECOWAS Lassa Fever International Conference, held last week in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

She presented a compelling case report on Lassa fever in pregnancy resulting in maternal mortality, a sobering reminder of the unique vulnerabilities faced by expectant mothers during outbreaks, and more importantly why we do the work we do at HelpMum.

One of the mothers in the case had resorted to self-medication, highlighting the devastating consequences of misinformation, delayed care, and lack of timely access to qualified health professionals.

These are precisely the kinds of gaps that inspired our innovations like Mamabot (delivers verified maternal health information via WhatsApp) and Stratify AI (allows users to chat with certified doctors and receive early risk assessments, right from their phones).

The conference, organized by the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), hosted over 800 participants, including health ministers, researchers, scientists, public health officials, and development partners from across the ECOWAS region and beyond.

Two days ago, the HelpMum Team spent the entire day at HelpMum HQ interacting with our investors (Gavi, the vaccine alliance) from Geneva, Switzerland, discussing some of the exciting AI innovations we are developing with their funding support, and planning the next phase of our collaboration for the important work we are doing on Vaxsocial.

We also discussed our methodology, such as the open source strategy for our AI innovations.
At HelpMum, we want to create a strategy around developing open-source AI innovations that can help aid collaboration across the world with developers and organizations using our technology to improve maternal and infant healthcare, and then helping us scale our innovations at massive impact.
