Tips to Keep Fit this Rainy Season!!!

It's usually cold during rainy season.

When the weather is cold, our internal body heat reduces.

This can lead to decreased immunity and poor blood circulation causing one to come down with cold/flu and an increase in blood pressure respectively.

The cold weather can also cause more pain to those with Asthma and Arthritis.

The following are measures that can be taken to stay strong during this rainy season:

💚 Wear thick dresses to keep warm

💚 Have good rest, get enough sleep (at night)

💚 Consume fruits/foods rich in Vitamin C, D3 and E to boost immunity

Pawpaw, orange, potato are some examples of foods with Vitamin C

💚 Avoid chilled water and drinks

Take warm water especially in the morning before breakfast

💚 Avoid junks/fast foods.
Prepare your own (healthy) food and consume them warm

💚 Healthy tea (ginger, mint leaves) and pepper soups can help give warmth

💚 Stay hydrated.

Caffeine intake can increase peeing and cause dehydration

💚 Avoid walking in the rain

💚 Stay dry

Why You Should Eat ONION!!!

🌾 Onion contains antioxidants (such as quercetin, anthocyanins and sulphur compounds) that can help prevent cancer and inflammation

🌿 It's a good source of fibre and prebiotics that improves digestive health

🌾 It is rich in potassium, a mineral that helps to lower blood pressure

🍁 It also contains Vitamin B6, B9(folate) and C

Onion can be consumed in a variety of ways. It can be:

You may want to opt for beans that's got some weavils.

Water is essential for survival.

We loose water through sweat, urine, stool and even while breathing.

Water lost needs to be replaced to create a balance else we get dehydrated.

Dehydration is not a good condition for the health as it impair the body's normal functioning.

Dizziness, headache, fatigue, dry skin, dark coloured urine and thirst are some of the signs/symptoms of dehydration.

Severe dehydration can result in complications such as kidney problems, low blood volume, heat injury, seizures shock (a sudden drop in the flow of blood) etc.

About 3-4Ltrs of water should be taken daily to maintain water balance and prevent dehydration.

TAKE TIME TO CHEW!!!

Beyond eating the right food, is eating it the right way, because it determines whether or not we'll get the nourishment it promises.

Chewing, is a very important part of nutrition. Many feel digestion begins when foods get to the stomach. But No! It actually begins from the mouth which is part of the digestive system.

We ought to chew our food for about 32 times (per bite or mouthful of food). Yes! 32. It could be more or less depending on the kind of food like groundnut and watermelon respectively. The aim however is to grind into a fine paste.

BENEFITS OF PROPER CHEWING
🔸 Enhances digestion: foods when properly chewed are broken into fine particles and mix well with digestive enzymes in the saliva making digestion easy.

🔸Helps in weight management: taking time to chew/eat is linked to eating smaller portions (getting full quick) of food. It also reduces craving for snacking, all of which are essential for weight management.

🔸 Maximizes nutrient absorption: proper chewing allows adequate extraction of nutrients in foods in order for the body to absorb them.
