Causes Of Appendicitis In Humans

Appendix is a small organ that is being described as the remainder of the intestine which has no importance in the human body. It is seen as a worm-like structure that is attached at the tip of the large intestine.

When the appendix is attacked, it gets swollen, by increasing abnormally in size, which is medically called inflammation. This may be treated by the use of antibiotics in few cases, while appendectomy, which is a special type of surgery performed on the right lower abdomen, to remove the swollen appendix before it bursts inside the abdomen, is the most common treatment of appendicitis.

Here are the 2 known causes of Appendicitis in humans;

1. Hard and solid food materials; Stones and seeds from the food, vegetables and mostly fruits could get trapped in the appendix since food material passes along the small intestine to the large intestine for excretion. The hard and solid food material in the appendix builds up pressure in it, preventing blood flow to the tissues of the appendix. This results to the inflammation of the lymphoid tissues of the organ.

2. Bacterial infection; This is the most common diagnosed cause of inflammation of the appendix. When bacteria in the appendix begin to multiply, the body's immunity will respond to it by releasing antibodies to the appendix. The response of the immune system to the multiplying bacteria in the appendix results to an inflammation, whereby the appendix gets swollen.

Typhoid Fever: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, and treatment.

Every year, an estimated 11-20 million people get sick from typhoid, and between 128,000 and 161,000 people do not survive it. Typhoid fever is caused by the bacteria Salmonella Typhi that can lead to a high fever, diarrhea and vomiting, and even be life-threatening. It is usually contracted through contaminated food or water ingested by an individual.

Symptoms of Typhoid fever:

Usually, symptoms begin 6-30 days after you have been exposed to the bacteria and are likely to develop gradually after that.

Once an infected person’s fever is high up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius, the person could develop a rash and in other cases diarrhea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, constipation, weakness. However, this is not normally severe.

There could be other symptoms such as extremely swollen stomach, dry cough, muscle aches, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

Diagnosis and Treatment:

The bacteria which is passed into the intestinal tract can be detected in stool samples, blood, or urine.

Antibiotics are known as the only effective treatment for typhoid and the most commonly used are ciprofloxacin and azithromycin. It is very important to always rehydrate by drinking adequate water.

Here are some steps to follow when you are being treated for typhoid:

~ Ensure to take all prescribed antibiotics for the period stated by the doctor

~ Wash your hands properly with soap and water from time to time.

~ Go for check-ups regularly.

~ Avoid drinking untreated water, eating raw or unwashed fruits and vegetables

Hepatitis B: symptoms, transmission and treatment.

Hepatitis is an infection that affects the liver which is one of the most important organs that keeps you alive and functioning. Without the liver, internal and external bleeding will not stop, energy will not be stored for later use, as well as drugs, poisons, and infections will not be removed from the blood.

The need for a healthy liver cannot be overemphasized and Hepatitis B is caused by a virus which if it becomes chronic, can develop to liver failure or cancer of the liver --which is a permanent condition of the liver.

How Hepatitis B can be transmitted

You can get Hepatitis B only from an infected person’s blood, semen, and other bodily fluids. These could be by:

use unsterilized needles, blades, clippers, or any instruments that have the blood of an infected person on them.

an infected pregnant woman passing the infection to her child at birth and during breastfeeding

Staying in the same space with someone infected with Hepatitis B

How do you know if you have Hepatitis B?

To medically diagnose Hepatitis B, a doctor would have to run blood tests on you which if you have it will also show how serious it is.

In another situation, the doctor may also do a liver biopsy to check if there are any signs of the virus or any liver damage.

Medication and Treatment of Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B could either be chronic or acute and this will determine the treatment method or medication that will be administered to you.

Most infected people are treated for about 4months with a medicine that is given in shots.

For chronic Hepatitis B, you would be under drug therapy with drugs such as:

A drug called lamivudine is taken by mouth once every day for one year

Another drug called adefovir dipivoxil is also taken by mouth once every day for one year

Interferon is a drug although not taken through the mouth but given through shots.

In a situation when the virus has destroyed the liver, a new liver will be needed.

If You Are Diabetic, Here Are 3 Things You Should Not Consume Often To Avoid Worsening the Condition

Diabetes is a very serious health condition that arises when the body is unable to regulate blood glucose level or sugar level. People living with diabetes are often advised not to eat everything like other people since the main aim is finding ways to regulate the blood sugar.

Some things can worsen the diabetes by leading to a massive increase in the blood sugar level of an individual. When this happens, the dangerous signs and effects of having an uncontrolled blood sugar comes to full display in your body. Uncontrolled blood sugar level can also cause organ problems in diabetes patients, so it's important to take note of these things that are harmful to the health of diabetics patients.

1. Avoid Sugary Drinks or Any Drink With Added Sugar; This is one thing you should avoid by all means. This is because anything that contains added sugar can be highly hazardous to the body of someone suffering from diabetes and as such should be frowned upon with everything in you. If you are the type of person that normally enjoys taking carbonated drinks or drinks with added sugar, you must cut down seriously on such things to avoid worsening your condition.

2. Cut Down on Carbs-Heavy Diets; Carbohydrates are important makeup of our diets but as a diabetic patient, there is urgent need to cut down on such foods. This is because constant consumption of carbohydrates might increase your sugar level to your own detriment, so make sure you eat less carbs, supplement it with fruits that have low glycemic index and also make sure you work out to reduce the glucose load on your body. Consume things that are rich in fiber and also consume proteinous foods more often instead of carbohydrates.

3. Cut Down On Alcohol; This is another thing you must cut down significantly on if you don't want to have issues with managing your blood sugar level. This is because alcohol can interrupt the hormones necessary for blood sugar regulation, so you need to be very careful while taking alcoholic drinks. Only take alcohol when it is very necessary and even when you must do so, take very little quantity, in order not to interrupt the blood sugar level regulation process.
