WORLD STROKE DAY

This year, 2024, the World Stroke Day Theme is "Let's get active every day to be "

This theme leverages the emotional power of sport to raise awareness about stroke and encourage action on stroke prevention and rehabilitation.

A stroke, or brain attack, happens when blood flow to the brain is stopped or interrupted by a blocked vessel. It is a medical emergency situation.

The brain needs a constant supply of oxygen and nutrients in order to work well. If blood supply is stopped even for a short time, this can cause problems.

Common causes include— severe hypertension, blood clot etc.

Stroke can also occur in children for various reasons

WORLD RABIES DAY 2024

World Rabies Day aims to raise awareness and advocate for rabies elimination globally, helping to unite all people, organizations, and stakeholders in the fight against rabies.

This year’s theme is “Breaking Rabies Boundaries”, underscoring the urgency to transcend limitations that are hindering our fight against this deadly disease.

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans through bites or scratches. The virus attacks the nervous system and can cause death if not treated. There is no cure for rabies once symptoms appear, but it is preventable. The best way to prevent rabies is to get vaccinated against the disease. Vaccination is also important for pets, as they can transmit the virus to humans.

Vaccinate your pets to help end rabies and save lives.

World Breastfeeding Week

This World Breastfeeding Week with the theme 'Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding Support for All,' underscores the collective responsibility to embrace and support breastfeeding mothers through diverse and comprehensive measures and policies.

Breast milk is the ideal source of nutrition for infants, providing a perfect balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and essential vitamins and minerals for their proper growth and development. It also strengthens their immune system.

For mothers, breastfeeding offers several advantages. It aids in uterine contraction, reducing postpartum bleeding and helping the uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size.
It also reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure

Erlings Children's Hospital encourages mothers to start breastfeeding within an hour of birth and continuing until the child is at least two years old
