STILL ON SCABIES
Early scabies involve intense itching (worse at night) and a bumpy, pimple-like rash, often with tiny, wavy, skin-colored burrows in skin folds (fingers, wrists, waist).
It takes 4-6 weeks to show symptoms after the first infestation, but you're contagious immediately;
KEY SIGNS:
Severe itching, small bumps, and burrows, especially in creases, though it can look like eczema or bug bites initially.
KEY EARLY SIGNS & SYMPTOMS:
INTENSE ITCHING: The hallmark symptom, significantly worse at night or after a hot shower, disrupting sleep.
RASH: Small, red bumps (papules) or blisters that can look like hives, pimples, or bug bites.
BURROW TRACKS: Tiny, raised, grayish or skin-colored wavy lines where mites tunnel under the skin, often between fingers, wrists, armpits, or ge****ls.
LOCATION: Common areas include finger webs, wrists, armpits, groin, buttocks, and waist. In infants, it can be on the head, neck, palms, and soles.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
DELAYED REACTION: For first-time infections, symptoms appear 4-6 weeks after infestation.
CONTAGIOUS PERIOD: You can spread scabies even before symptoms appear.
MISDIAGNOSIS: Early on, it might be mistaken for eczema, acne, or insect bites, but the severe nighttime itching is a key differentiator.
WHAT TO DO:
SEE A PROFESSIONAL:
Scabies needs prescription treatment (creams/lotions) to kill mites and eggs.
Treat Everyone: All household members and close contacts (sexual partners from last 8 weeks) should be treated simultaneously to prevent re-infestation.
CLEAN ENVIRONMENT: Wash bedding, clothes, and towels in hot water.
