Day 3: Community Health Outreach by Dietitians Association of Nigeria Rivers State Chapter

Despite the heavy downpour all day, we showed up strong.

Today, we celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2025 at Rumoudomaya Model Primary Health Care Centre (MPHC), and it was amazing. We were warmly received, and the collaboration with the MPHC made it a truly impactful outreach.

The day featured engaging breastfeeding talk sessions, a practical food demonstration, and education for healthcare professionals; all aimed at promoting the theme: “Prioritizing Breastfeeding.”

A heartfelt thank you to the Medical Officer of Health, Obio/Akpor LGA; the Nutrition Officer; Healthcare Workers at Rumoudomaya MPHC; Nigeria Health Fellows/Obio-Akpor Representatives; our DAN Rivers State dedicated Dietitians, Nursing Mothers, Pregnant Women, and everyone who made today a success.

Together, we’re making a difference.

Day 2: WBW 2025 Church Outreach

Today, the Dietitians Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter took the breastfeeding advocacy to the church! 🙌🏽

We held impactful sensitization sessions at All Saints Cathedral Church, Rumuokwurusi, and Church of Epiphany, reaching mothers, fathers, and the wider church community with the message of “Prioritizing Breastfeeding.”

The engagement was amazing as members eagerly listened, and received practical guidance on breastfeeding.

We’re proud to be the Voice of Change.

Thank you to the Venerables and Anglican Communion for giving us the privilege to speak in their local churches.

The Dietitians Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter proudly kicked off the 2025 World Dietitians Day celebration with a powerful radio sensitization at Wish 99.5FM which focused on this year’s theme: "Prioritizing Breastfeeding."

The session was impactful and engaging, as members of the public called in with insightful questions, demonstrating growing awareness and interest in the importance of breastfeeding for both mother and child.

But we’re not stopping there!

Up next, DAN Rivers State is taking the message to the community with a special sensitization outreach at All Saints Cathedral Anglican Church and Church of Epiphany, Rumuokwurushi this Sunday. Together, we’ll continue to promote evidence-based breastfeeding practices, support families, and advocate for stronger breastfeeding-friendly environments.

Workshop Session

The session delved into the intricacies of dietary management of cancer, and we looked at a UK Case Study.

The foremost lecture was taken by Ashleigh Butcher, a UK Registered Dietitian. She took us through the overview of cancer, statistics, prevalent cancers seen in the clinical settings and their dietary approaches.

Our very own Dietitian, Patrick Ogbonna gave a second lecture which discussed the diet plan for a cancer patient with swallowing difficulty.

Indeed, it's been so enlightening, informing and educating.

Continuing education is key, and we look forward to more of this.
