FALSE REPORT ON ALLEGED IMPOSITION OF UNPROFESSIONAL DUTIES ON NURSES AT OOUTH

The attention of the management of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) has been drawn to a news report alleging that nurses in public hospitals, including OOUTH, are being compelled to perform unprofessional duties as a result of the ongoing Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) National Strike. The report, purportedly signed by Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide on behalf of the Elegant Nurses Forum, was published by several online platforms and blogs, including Sahara Reporters, without due verification.

Management categorically states that the claims as they relate to OOUTH are false, misleading, and entirely baseless. At no time has any member of staff—medical or non-medical—been pressured, instructed, or compelled to perform duties outside the scope of their professional cadre.
The public is hereby assured that activities at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, continue to be managed with the highest level of professionalism and respect for all healthcare workers, including nurses. Staff welfare, teamwork, and adherence to ethical standards remain top priorities. Despite the ongoing industrial action, no medical personnel at OOUTH have been forced to undertake duties beyond their professional responsibilities or in violation of established practice.

The Acting Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Folasade Fawole, has also confirmed that nurses in OOUTH are not, and have never been, subjected to unconducive working conditions. According to her, “While nurses may take personal initiatives to keep their immediate workspaces tidy, cleaning of wards and clinic areas is not part of nurses’ official duties, and at no time have nurses been compelled to undertake such tasks.”

Management reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care, staff welfare, and a conducive working environment. OOUTH continues to engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to promptly address any concerns and ensure smooth service delivery within ethical and professional boundaries.

Thank you.

OOUTH Staff Shine in 2025, Pave Way for a Brighter 2026

The Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) has commended its staff for their dedication and resilience in the face of challenges, as the hospital's Chief Medical Director, Dr. Mrs. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, extended her New Year salutations to the clinical and non-clinical teams.

In a heartfelt message, Dr. Fatungase expressed gratitude for the staff's unwavering commitment to patient care, saying, "The year behind us came with its own demands and pressures. Yet, in spite of limitations and challenges, you showed professionalism, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to patients care."

The CMD outlined the hospital's priorities for 2026, focusing on improving quality, safety, and patient satisfaction, strengthening teamwork, and enhancing staff welfare. She emphasized that "Every cadre of staff is important, and every role counts," urging staff to recommit to professionalism, mutual respect, and excellence in service delivery.

Dr. Fatungase also reminded staff that "the image of OOUTH is reflected daily through our attitudes, conduct, and commitment to our patients and one another." She called on staff to take ownership of the institution's smooth operation, saying, "OOUTH belongs to all of us, let's not let it fail!!!"

The CMD's message concluded with a plea for unity and collective effort, trusting that with God's help, 2026 will bring progress, stability, and greater achievements for OOUTH. "Together, we can build a stronger, more efficient, and more compassionate institution," she said.
