🟥 WORLD AIDS DAY 2025
Today, we join the rest of the world to mark World AIDS Day with this year’s theme: “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.”

At Red Cross Ekesh Detachment, we use this moment to stand with people living with HIV, encourage regular testing, and remind our community that stigma helps no one. HIV is not the end of life — support, care and correct information make all the difference.

Let’s keep talking, keep learning, and keep protecting one another. Together, we can build a healthier community where no one is left behind.

🌍 Did you know that 1 in 3 girls worldwide experience physical or sexual violence?

Physical or sexual violence includes any act that hurts someone’s body or forces them into sexual activity without consent. It can happen at home, at school, or in the community, and no one should have to face it.

At Red Cross Ekesh Detachment, we believe every girl and woman has the right to live safely and with dignity. We stand together to raise awareness, speak out, and protect those at risk.

Let’s condemn violence and fight to end it. 💪

🧺💊 STREET MEDICINES: A SILENT DANGER IN OUR COMMUNITIES 🚨

📍 Seen recently in a local market: A man carrying a basket filled with various drugs — from antibiotics to herbal mixtures — selling to anyone who stops to ask.

This is the reality in many underserved communities where access to proper healthcare is limited.

❗ Unregulated street drugs pose serious health risks — wrong dosages, fake medications, and no professional guidance.

At the Red Cross, we advocate for safe healthcare practices and increased access to licensed medical care for all.

🗣️ What can we do to reduce this trend?

Stay Safe: Wear a Life Jacket Before Every Water Journey

Before you set out on any water trip—whether it's by boat, kayak, or ferry—make sure you're wearing a life jacket. It only takes a moment to put on, but it can save your life in an emergency. Accidents on water happen quickly, and a life jacket ensures you stay afloat even if you're injured or unconscious. Safety first, always!

First Aid Tip: Stop the Bleed!

Bleeding can be life-threatening if not treated quickly. Here’s what to do:

Stay Safe – Wear gloves if available.

Apply Pressure – Use a clean cloth or your hands to press firmly on the wound.

Keep Pressure On – Don’t lift the cloth to check. Add more layers if needed.

Raise the Wound – If possible, elevate the injured area above the heart.

Call for Help – Dial emergency services or get the person to medical care ASAP.

Being prepared saves lives. Learn more or take a first aid class with your local Red Cross!
