WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FIRST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY

First trimester starts from the first day of your last menstrual period to the 13th week of your pregnancy.

During this period, you will notice some early pregnancy symptoms and remarkable changes in your body.

Your baby is in the phase of organ formation. The heart starts beating and the limbs are formed. You can see this on scan๐Ÿค—.

During this period, your hormones are at increased levels and blood flow to your uterus increases to help in the nourishing of your baby.

At this time you start experiencing symptoms like nausea and occasional vomiting due to high levels of pregnancy hormones. I'm sure you've heard of morning sickness (though it can occur at anytime of the day).

Get ready to see your baby bump appear. ๐Ÿฅณ

As your baby grows you will notice frequent urges to urinate. This is because your uterus puts pressure on the bladder. You may also notice slight leakage in urine when coughing or sneezing. Don't get worried ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Around this period you could experience constipation which is due to reduced bowel movement from hormonal changes.

You could also experience heartburns. This is due to pregnancy hormones relaxing the valve between your stomach and esophagus, allowing stomach acid to leak into your esophagus, causing heartburn.

Craving for certain foods also starts during this period. You may want to be licking star apple most of the time๐Ÿฅฐ

Your libido (s*xual urge) tends to increase due increase blood flow to your ge****ls and breast. They become quite sensitive. Have s*x and enjoy yourself with your partner.

Having s*x during pregnancy doesn't affect your baby. In fact, it keeps you mentally strong and emotionally stable.๐Ÿค—

This period may not be an easy experience for some women. You need to be strong. Also, see your doctor for proper follow up care.

THINGS YOU OUGHT TO KNOW ABOUT FETAL KICKS

Fetal kicks, also known as quickening, are the first movements that a pregnant woman feels from her fetus.

They are typically felt between 16 and 20 weeks of pregnancy, but can vary from woman to woman.

Fetal kicks are caused by the fetus moving its arms and legs. As the fetus grows, its movements become stronger and more frequent.

By the third trimester, fetal kicks can be quite strong and can be felt several times a day.

There is no need to worry if you don't feel fetal kicks right away. Every pregnancy is different and some women don't feel kicks until later on.

Here are some tips for feeling fetal kicks:

1. Lie down on your back in a quiet place.
2. Place your hands on your stomach.
3. Relax and focus on your baby's movements.
4. You may feel a fluttering or tickling sensation at first.
5. As your baby grows, the kicks will become stronger and more frequent.

There are some cases where fetal kicks may be abnormal.

If you notice a sudden change in the frequency or strength of your baby's kicks, it is important to see a doctor right away.

This could be a sign of a problem such as fetal distress or intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).

Here are some signs that fetal kicks may be abnormal:

1. A sudden decrease in the number of kicks you feel each day.
2. Kicks that are much weaker or stronger than usual
3. Kicks that are accompanied by pain or discomfort
4. A sudden increase in the number and frequency of kicks you feel each day

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor right away. They will be able to perform an ultrasound to check on your baby's health.

It is important to remember that every pregnancy is different. Some babies are more active than others.

If you are concerned about your baby's kicks, talk to your doctor. They can help you determine if there is a problem.

WHEN TO BOOK YOUR PREGNANCY

It's common to see beautiful preggies coming to book their pregnancies very late.

From my observation first time mothers seem to book early compared to those that have delivered before.

I asked one preggy the other time why she booked at 30 weeks and she said she has done ANC three times already so she has experience.๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿค”

It's true she has experience but that's not why you should'nt book early.

Most experts recommend you book within the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The World Health Organization recommends booking a pregnancy for ANC within 17 weeks of pregnancy in developing countries.

The reasons you have to book early include:

1. It helps in early detection of factors that could lead to complications for the mother or baby.

For instance, high blood pressure or diabetes can develop and complicate a pregnancy at any time.

There is a lady that used to experience recurrent mid-trimester miscarriages. She booked early in her third pregnancy and that problem (cervical incompetence) was solved by inserting a cerclage for her.

2. Early detection of abnormalities in the baby.

One of our preggies booked at 26 weeks GA and her scan result picked some abnormalities in the baby. She was counselled for medical termination of pregnancy.

It could have been detected early if she booked on time.

3. The education and counseling you receive during ANC is indispensable. Don't miss it.

AFTER A POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST

Congratulations! You will be a mother soon.๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Here are some things you need to know:

1. Your last menstrual period (LMP): You should take note of this even before a positive pregnancy test.

It's the first day of your last me**es and it is useful in determining your Expected Date of Delivery (EDD), your baby's gestational age and detecting problems during pregnancy like abnormal growth of the baby.

If you aren't sure of your LMP, you need to do a scan for dating of the pregnancy within the first 8 to 13 weeks of for accuracy.

2. Avoid unprescribed medications: In the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, organs are forming and your baby is prone to abnormalities if exposed to some dangerous medications.

I'm sure you don't want to put to birth a deformed child which is why you have to take drugs on prescription.

-Take your folic acid and multivitamins.
-Eat nutritious diets.
-Drink a lot of water.
-Engage in a non-vigorous exercises.

3. Get ready to book your pregnancy for antenatal care.
Dear preggy, there are a lot of things to learn during your ANC. Don't take it for granted.

I see lots of women who go late for ANC and do not the lectures seriously. This is wrong.

You have to make up your mind to go through the pregnancy period a cheerful preggy because antenatal sessions may come with lots of queue.

You have to be obedient and take the instructions you're given seriously. ๐Ÿ˜™

BEFORE A POSITIVE PREGNANCY TEST

Pregnancy experience can be quite exciting if you're well prepared for it. In the preparatory phase, your physical, social, and emotional well-being are very crucial.

To stand a better chance of getting pregnant, you need to be having s*x with your partner at least three times a week (i.e at least every other day), especially in your fertile period.

It's not advised to wait until you see signs of ovulation before you engage in s*xual in*******se.

It's very important for you to control your anxiety during this expectation period.

I know you need a baby, but getting angry each month you see your period isn't helpful. It could put you under emotional stress and loss of excitement for s*x

You need a positive mental attitude and you need to stay calm. The more you try, the higher your chances. So keep calm. Your baby is coming. ๐Ÿค—

You need to exercise regularly to strengthen you and keep you fit.

You need to drink water regularly to keep you hydrated and strong.

You need to take folic acid daily. It will help your baby in development your baby's brain and spinal cord.

You need healthy diets to nourish you and prepare your body for your baby.

Husbands, you need to support your wives too. This period is not easy for many of them. Pressure from friends and family (especially the belly watchers ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ) can be overwhelming. You could be their only source of strength at this time.

Remember to pray. It could be a good source of motivation and emotional strength.
