HIV and some opportunistic infections can challenge our sense of well-being or complicate existing mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and psychosis.
As part of NYNETHA's Strategic Plan, Adeshola Oladeji , the facilitator, highlighted the connection between HIV/AIDS and mental health, emphasizing the negative impact of a long-term/terminal illness diagnosis on an individual's psychology.
Mental health holds significance in the HIV/AIDS domain due to various factors contributing to mental health issues in this space, including stigma, discrimination, low resilience, stressful or traumatic experiences leading to PTSD, and neurocognitive disorders.
Adeshola aims to pioneer recognition and integration processes in Nigeria by proposing measures such as empowerment and training on mental health and psychosocial support, forging partnerships with organizations, institutions, and mental health advocates, among others.
