AMR isn’t a distant headline — it’s happening around us, every day.
Stories like Mr. Ocha’s remind us why awareness is not enough; responsible action is what truly protects us.

As we mark World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, let’s commit to one simple decision that can save lives: use antibiotics the right way, at the right time, and only when prescribed.

Every dose we take wisely is a step toward a safer future.
Every person we educate helps break the cycle of resistance.

Let’s stay informed.
Let’s stay accountable.
Let’s protect our communities — one responsible choice at a time. 💙🌍

🌍 WORLD ANTIMICROBIAL AWARENESS WEEK

Antimicrobials save lives — but only when we use them right.
Misuse and abuse are giving rise to antimicrobial resistance, making once-effective drugs powerless.

This poem reminds us of a simple truth:
Drugs don’t fail us… we fail them when we misuse them.

💊 Don’t skip doses
💊 Don’t self-medicate
💊 Don’t stop treatment halfway
💊 Follow your prescription strictly

Let’s act now to protect our present and secure our future.
Together, we can fight AMR.

Theme: ‘Act Now! Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future’

What Are Antimicrobials?
Antimicrobials are agents that kill or stop the growth of harmful microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. They are classified as antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics

Understanding Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when microbes evolve to withstand drugs that are meant to kill them. They do this by mutating, forming biofilms, or producing enzymes that destroy or deactivate the drug.

The Risk of Self-Medication
Taking antimicrobials without prescription(s) promotes misuse, incorrect dosing, and incomplete treatments, all of which creates an ideal environment for resistance to develop and spread.

Do’s and Don’ts of Antimicrobial Use

Do these:
1. Use antimicrobials only when prescribed
2. Complete the full course
3. Follow dosage instructions

Don’t do these:
1. Self-medicate or share drugs
2. Pressure your doctor for antibiotics
3. Stop treatment early
4. Take antimicrobials leisurely

Healthcare Worker Steps to Prevent Resistance:
Prescribe responsibly based on diagnosis
Educate patients about proper use of these medicines
Adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols
Monitor and report cases of resistance
Stay updated on treatment guidelines/regimens.

A Call to Action
Always follow your doctor’s prescription. Never share or reuse antibiotics. Complete every dose, even if you start to feel better.

🧠 World Stroke Day 2025: Recognize the Signs, Save a Life

Every year on October 29, the world unites to raise awareness about stroke — a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted. This year’s theme reminds us that every second counts, and awareness saves lives.

A stroke can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any age. The key to survival and recovery is early recognition and immediate medical attention.

Remember the FAST warning signs:
• F – Face drooping
• A – Arm weakness
• S – Speech difficulty
• T – Time to call emergency services immediately

Preventing stroke starts with healthy lifestyle choices — eating balanced meals, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking, and managing conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Let’s take action today by spreading awareness, supporting survivors, and committing to healthier habits.
Together, we can build a world where fewer people experience the devastating effects of stroke. 💙
