Lung nodule volume in CT plays a key role in nodule management and follow-up decisions, thanks to the ability to calculate the volume doubling time, recognized as among the most important biomarkers for malignancy. To characterize the volume of lung nodules in an accurate and precise fashion, it is essential to optimize spatial resolution and image noise through the careful tailoring of acquisition and reconstruction protocols.

At ECR 2026, you can learn from Ioannis Sechopoulos how different noise texture at different dose levels can affect the accuracy and precision of nodule volumetry in solid nodules and ground glass opacities acquired with photon counting CT (CZT-based PCCT, Canon Medical Systems clinical prototype).

This study paves the way for an improved understanding of how CT image characteristics may impact lung nodule volume calculation, and highlights the importance of tailored protocol optimization in PCCT.

PIQE increases matrix size, reduces noise, and delivers sharp anatomical images to take MR imaging to the next level.
