Obesity is a major health issue, also related to psychosocial problems like poor self-esteem, bullying and underachievement at school.

Because its consequences are seen in most aspects of a person’s life. A healthy start in life is one way to go about it, both in the making of healthier food choices and in taking up exercise as part of every day life.

Persistent parental criticism may instill a chronic negative self-image in adolescents, which in turn makes them vulnerable to developing mental health issues, such as depression, even into adulthood.

Social feedback is increasingly important for the formation and development of adolescents’ self-views.

Teens who receive less parental warmth may develop a weaker sense of safety and self-worth, and might perceive criticism as more threatening.

Teenagers all over the world are not getting enough sleep. Sleep contributes to healthy brain development, particularly important in adolescence, as well as overall well-being.

Even a few nights of sleep restriction can have an impact, which is why it’s so important for families to understand the importance of quality sleep.

If you notice your teen is having trouble sleeping, talk to them about it and make sure you take the necessary steps in order to help them get the rest they need.

A person's goals and ambitions are their aspirations for the future that motivate and excite them, whether it be thriving in school, excelling in sports, or landing a specific career.

Help your teen figure out what it is that their goals and ambitions are, and remember, it’s ok if they don’t know right away, some people take longer to find what they are passionate about.

Historically, boys reported higher levels of substance use than girls, however, that has changed in some, mostly Western, countries.

It’s important to be aware of this change, because both boys and girls can likely engage in these behaviors during adolescence due to this being a period known for risk behavior and social pressures.

Among the many things a teen needs to learn when growing up, managing money is often overlooked but extremely important. Now’s the time to learn how to be responsible with their money, how to budget, have a bank account, and start saving.

These are things you can teach them, as well as setting a good example.

Whatever interests your teen, they can undoubtedly learn more about it. You can enroll in a course together if you enjoy photography, just as you can if you enjoy dancing, playing the guitar, nature, or cooking.

The important part is to find something you can learn together, these are memories that you will both cherish.

Living in caring, encouraging homes, having a group of friends, partaking in social activities, and being a part of a supportive school community can all help to encourage these.

It can be tremendously upsetting to fall short of a goal or objective. Remind your teen that if they keep trying, learn from their mistakes, and figure out how to get better, they will eventually succeed.

There are sensitive periods in development, times when the brain looks to have certain experiences and is more sensitive towards them.

During the teenage years, the brain goes through a final “upgrade”, so it wants teens to learn about peers, self-identity, independence, emotionally driven learning and novel experiences. The reason why is because, as far as evolution is concerned, they are the most important at these stage in their life.

Learning safely with boundaries and adult support in these areas is crucial for teen’s brains development and for their long term well-being.

While not a holiday that’s celebrated all over the world, most teens are interested in Halloween and look forward to dressing up or having scary movie marathons with friends.

While not always suited for smaller children, you can find things to do in your city with your teen that they will like and appreciate.

Whether your teen prefers noise and being surrounded by lots of people, or if they tend to lean towards peace and quiet, knowing their preference empowers them to make their way in the world on their own terms.

Our world today tends to promote extrovert values, but it’s important to remember that everyone thrives and struggles in different scenarios. Learning what works for your teen and accepting this can enable them to learn, build, and execute ways to focus on their different strengths in different scenarios.
