Having a dairy allergy, IBS, or being gluten or lactose intolerant your body may have an inflammatory response when you eat or drink dairy. One of the symptoms is acne.
Research has also shown that people who drank low-fat dairy products can develop acne.
A link is also made between acne and the amount of milk someone consumes and the artificial and natural hormones that are presented in milk.
More research is needed to see if cutting dairy out of your diet improves your skin. Yogurt and cheese are not directly linked to acne.
With the increasing popularity of plant-based milk, you would think these products are a simple solution. The problem is that lots of sugars are often added, creating unstable blood sugar and can trigger acne.
If you want to test whether dairy is the problem, try removing the dairy from your menu to which sugars have been added. Like sweetened milk, yogurt with added sugars, and ice-creams. Other options are avoiding dairy for a month, eating higher-quality dairy, choosing organic and full-fat instead of low-fat, and increasing the number of better quality (anti-inflammatory) foods in your diet. Choosing products from goat's or sheep’s milk instead of cow's milk can also be helpful.
When cutting out dairy make sure you get calcium and protein from other sources such as leafy greens, beans, eggs, nuts and seeds, quinoa, and lentils.
