Training muscles you can't move — it sounds like science fiction, but it's physiotherapy in its essence.

Through electrical stimulation, we can activate muscles in people with a spinal cord injury — even when they have no voluntary control over them. It promotes muscle growth and puts a load on the cardiovascular system at the same time. The same principle applies after surgery, like an ACL reconstruction, where the quads are temporarily inhibited - electrostimulation helps restore that connection and get them firing again.

Our physio Julian is currently taking a course at Reade to sharpen these skills and his knowledge - his motivation? He's once again the assigned physio of the Dutch wheelchair basketball team. 🏀

Curious, driven, and calm, born and raised in Switzerland, with a spark for understanding how the body moves and performs - that's Cédrine.

With roots as a semi-professional violist, a love for CrossFit, yoga, and running, she brings a diverse and finely tuned sense of body awareness and performance demands into her work.

Currently diving deep into pelvic physiotherapy within her Master studies, she is focusing on the connection between sports, recovery, and pelvic health. Cédrine loves helping people move better, feel stronger, and take charge of their own recovery—with a mix of precision, curiosity, and a steady, reassuring presence.

Expect a thoughtful approach, new insights, and a calm energy that keeps things grounded—even when your body feels anything but.

Always good to keep learning.

This week we joined a plyometric study session led by a former colleague and S&C coach, sharing insights all the way from Australia 🇦🇺.

Together with the trainers from Rockstar, we explored different jump variations and how to apply them in rehabilitation and performance training.

Plyometrics play a key role in building resilient athletes and preparing the body for the demands of sport.

Great to exchange knowledge and keep improving the way we train and treat our clients.

Do you know which biceps exercises bring the highest muscle activation? Is it the classic Biceps Curl or another hidden champion? 💪🏻

Research often assesses exercises based on MVIC (Maximum Voluntary Isometric Contraction) - the max force a muscle can produce. Muscle activity is then reported as a % of MVIC.

What does this mean?
💪🏻Higher %MVIC = more biceps fibers working

Based on EMG/MVIC data, these exercises have shown consistently high biceps activation:

1️⃣Reverse Punch with elastic tubing

2️⃣Throwing forward flexion in 90° with soft weight ball

3️⃣Inclined biceps curl with dumbbell

During your rehab, we want to load you appropriately with exercises that bring you closer to your sport and address the needed load, range and tempo progressively.
