//World Diabetes Day - November 14th

November 14 marks World Diabetes Day, a global initiative to raise awareness about the far-reaching impact of diabetes, including its often-overlooked effects on oral health.

Scientific evidence shows that individuals with diabetes are at significantly higher risk of developing periodontal disease, oral infections, xerostomia (dry mouth), and delayed wound healing. Conversely, poor oral health can negatively affect glycemic control, highlighting a bidirectional relationship between metabolic and oral well-being.

This World Diabetes Day, let’s remember that oral health is an integral part of overall health, and awareness, prevention, and interdisciplinary collaboration are key to reducing diabetes-related complications.

//Mouth Cancer Awareness Month 2025
💙 November marks the beginning of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month – a crucial time to raise awareness about one of the fastest-growing types of cancer worldwide.
Mouth cancer can appear in the lips, tongue, gums, cheeks, or roof/floor of the mouth. Sadly, many cases are diagnosed late, which significantly lowers survival rates. Early detection, however, can save lives.

✅ This month, we encourage everyone to:
1. Stay informed about the signs and symptoms.
2. Schedule regular dental and medical check-ups.
3. Share this message to help others become more aware.
Your vigilance could save your life — or someone else’s.

// EDSA Country in Spotlight 💡— October 🥁🥁 UNECD (France)!

🇫🇷 UNECD (Union Nationale des Étudiants en Chirurgie Dentaire) represents one of Europe's largest student communities, covering 21 distinct Dental Faculties and championing the interests of over 7500+ Dental Students across France. 🌍The association is run by a devoted core of 19 Executive Board members. Their spectacular work has reached far and wide, both at home and globally. UNECD's most outstanding achievement is leading crucial international solidarity missions 🤍 which promote vital oral health education in countries such as Senegal, Nepal, and Morocco.

Over the last year, UNECD successfully organised a major Scientific Congress, bringing together students, researchers, and dental industry partners for clinical and scientific discussions. To keep members current, they consistently organise a national congress every four months. 📢💌

Currently, UNECD faces a major undertaking: they are playing a key role in defending student and professional viewpoints during a significant national reorganisation of French dental studies. Their strong advocacy ensures student voices are heard during this crucial reform. 🇫🇷🦷We, at EDSA, are truly proud to shine a light on the impressive commitment and reach of UNECD! 💙💭🫂

This World Cavity-Free Future Day, EDSA is proud to stand alongside the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF) in supporting a global movement towards better oral health for all. 🦷💙

In the past year, the World Health Organization (WHO) made a landmark step for global oral health by hosting its first Global Oral Health Meeting, where Member States came together to adopt the Bangkok Declaration – “No Health Without Oral Health.” This milestone reaffirmed the essential link between oral health and overall wellbeing, setting the foundation for collective global efforts to reduce cavities and improve access to dental care.

Through the WHO Global Oral Health Action Plan, governments, professionals, and communities are encouraged to take concrete action — from prevention and education to policy development. As dental students and future practitioners, EDSA believes in the power of collaboration to make these goals a reality. Together, we are committed to promoting awareness, empowering future dentists, and inspiring action for a cavity-free future.

Let’s continue working hand in hand to make oral health a universal priority — because healthy smiles mean healthier lives. 🌍✨

10th of October - World Mental Health Day
Mental health and physical health are deeply connected, and oral health is no exception. Stress, anxiety, and certain medications can increase the risk of gum disease, dry mouth, and other dental issues, while chronic oral problems can negatively affect well-being and self-confidence.
On World Mental Health Day, it’s important to recognize that taking care of your mind includes caring for your body — and your smile. Taking care of your mental health is essential — prioritize rest, set boundaries, and seek support when needed.
Small daily actions can make a big difference for your well-being!
