LEADERS OF UNITES NO. 132 -
From neighborhood games to local leader!
For Marc van der Oordt, the court has always been more than just a place to play—it’s where community is built.
Growing up in Heerhugowaard, Marc was the kid knocking on doors to start a football match. But as life changed and his family moved across town, he realized that sports were his “social glue.”
After a brief hiatus during his studies—which he calls the “biggest mistake of his life”—Marc found his way back to the game, trading the football pitch for the 3x3 court.
What started as shooting hoops with friends during school breaks quickly exploded into something bigger. “We went from 1-on-1 games to driving carloads of players to Haarlem every week,” Marc remembers.
It was through the 3X3 Leader Course that Marc’s perspective shifted from player to mentor. He realized that 3x3 basketball isn’t just about the score; it’s about ownership. Without a coach or a referee, you learn to:
* Take responsibility for your actions.
* Resolve conflicts with honesty.
* Lead by example as a role model.
While Marc carries his family close—symbolized by the signet ring from his father and a bracelet from his sister—his eyes are fixed on the future of Heerhugowaard.
Today, he’s a Local Coordinator, running clinics and organizing the 3x3 Rabo Street League.
Marc’s journey proves that when you invest in the game, the game invests back in you. From a local kid playing on a grass field to a community leader shaping the next generation, Marc is living proof that life lessons are best learned on the court.
“In 3x3, you have to organize things among yourselves. If you make a mistake, you admit it. That’s taking responsibility—on and off the court.”
