As studio owners, we romanticise the idea of having our own members — a loyal community with genuine connections and personal service.
But over the last decade, group fitness has become so diverse that while prices kept rising, clients began craving the freedom to combine different workouts from different studios instead of committing to just one.
Platforms like ClassPass and Urban Sports Club filled that gap, offering flexible memberships clients loved — but they also weakened the direct relationships studios once had with their members, while studios became increasingly dependent on them for revenue.
And we totally get it: your body craves different workout styles, and your mind needs variety to stay motivated. Our focus is solely on barre because we want to give you the highest possible quality — but true boutique studios, by nature, can’t offer everything under one roof. For many, third-party platforms felt like the only option.
Yet somewhere along the way, we went from personal interactions at the front desk to silent check-ins through apps and QR-codes. You went from our personal customer service to dealing with third-party helpdesks.
And studios went from being financially self-reliant, to unsustainably dependent and exploited by corporate giants.
This is not the culture we envisioned when we opened our studio and we want to try transitioning out of this.
So, it’s time to adapt. Times have changed, and so must memberships. If we want to rebuild those genuine connections and regain our independence, we need to offer you a new structure.
