On our social media, we like to share the experiences and stories of our product users. Barry underwent osseointegration (OI) in 2015 and is since then active as an OI experience expert and involved in various initiatives focused on OI, including AOFE ().

For a bone-anchored prosthesis, besides the correct foot, the connector is an essential part for me. I take many long-distance walks with my wife on both well and poorly accessible routes with wildly varying surfaces. I have to be able to rely on my connector for this.

In the past year, we have made many intensive hikes, including the and the . My confidence in the Luci connector has only grown since then. The connector is a sturdy, easy to use and very reliable connector that I can rely on in my daily life!

My left leg was amputated because of post-traumatic dystrophy long time ago. Although I was relieved from my painful leg I could not tolerate a socket prosthesis very well and it was difficult to use my sound leg and arms and I ended up in a wheelchair for 24 years. After years of walking in pain, skin problems and many surgeries to my stump in various hospitals throughout the country my rehabilitation doctor pointed out the possibility of an osseointegration treatment at Radboudumc in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. I came in contact with rehabilitation doctor Henk van de Meent and orthopedic trauma surgeon Jan Paul Frölke. After an extensive consultation I came eligible for osseointegration. On February 14, 2019 I had surgery and during my hospital stay my prosthetic leg was prepared for the osseointegration implant system by the prosthetic technician. He removed the socket and mounted the “Heli” connector. A new world had just opened for me.

Due to osseointegration I can now do my daily shopping and cycling. Walking is getting better with an average of 3 to 4 kilometers a day. I cycle distances of about 30 to 40 kilometers, mostly through the North Sea dunes in Westland near Kijkduin.

OTN Innovations has now developed another connector, the “Luci”. This connector is very easy to attach to the osseointegration implant system and very user-friendly because it requires little strength to done and doff the prostheses. The photos clearly show how the Luci is mounted and how it looks when walking and cycling.

Next year I hope to join the climb of the Alpe d’Huez by bike. For that I will work-out a lot this summer. My running and cycling experiences are encouraging after osseointegration combined with the Luci connector, which I definitely recommend.

At the beginning of this year, TV channel RTL-Z made recordings for the “Doe Maar Duurzaam” (translation: be sustainable) program. During this episode, the Dutch took a look at VTV Tooling, the tooling company that manufactures the Luci connector on behalf of OTN Innovations BV. With their brand new 5-axis CNC machine, the connector is milled out of high-quality titanium with precision to at least one hundredth of a millimeter for a perfect fit.

All OTN Innovations quick-release connectors are being fully tested according to ISO 10328 for prostethic components.
An independent testing laboratory, like Berlin Cert (Germany), performs several test with our connectors to determine their safety in strength and reliability.

In this test our Luci will endure 3 million loading cycles of 125 kilograms/275 lbs(!) that simulates 3 years of walking with the connector.

These (not required) tests stimulate the patient's confidence to fully walk on their prosthesis (artificial limb) without the fear of breakage.
