Breathing is the most continuous movement of human life, yet it is also one of the most easily restricted.
Stress, adaptation, posture, and emotional holding gradually shape the way the breath moves through the system.
What should be a fluid, spontaneous process often becomes controlled, shallow, or effortful - influencing not only oxygen exchange, but also nervous system regulation, energy, and emotional tone.
In Opening the Breath – Thorax & Diaphragm, we approach breathing as a whole-body phenomenon. The diaphragm, ribcage, spine, shoulders, and neck form an integrated functional unit, constantly responding to both internal and external experience.
Through refined touch, palpation, and body-reading, you will develop the ability to recognize how breath patterns reflect protective strategies, autonomic states and long-standing holding dynamics.
Because breathing is never purely mechanical.
The diaphragm sits at the intersection of voluntary and involuntary processes. Changes in breath rhythm, depth, and mobility often parallel shifts in emotional accessibility, regulation, and internal safety.
The work is slow, precise, and cooperative.
Rather than attempting to “improve” the breath, we create conditions in which the system can reorganize naturally. As the thorax softens and movement returns, breathing may regain its original quality - effortless, responsive, alive.
It’s your chance to experience this in Belgium.
