Experimenting with more challenging ways to stress the "shoulders to knees" in deceleration to make sure that co- contraction of the Hamstring, Triceps Surae and Q-ceps happen at the right time with the right amount of force. 🦵🏽

Co-contraction is proven to protect the knee in unloading the anterior cruciate ligament and preserving tibiofemoral joint stability. (Biscarini et al 2013, Geulich et al 2015 and many more)

Co-contraction does not only reduce injury risk but also enhances sport performance. (Shorter GRF more speed etc.) 💪🔥

"If the bar ain't bending, then you're just pretending" 😉

Overcoming isometric in a "runners position". As the name tells you ( 💭aha) these are great for athletes in running based sports.

I feel like this exercise (and isometrics in general) really help injured-athletes trust and feel that maximal unilateral weightbearing on the (previously) injured leg is ok. It is definetely one of my tools when returning athletes back to running.

Left: rearfoot running @ first time sprint analysis

In between: lower leg strengthening.+ constraint led approach of sprinting education (once a week for four weeks)

Right: 4 weeks later--> forefoot running (sprint)

Forefoot sprinting is biomechanically faster and seen in (almost) all elite sprinters.

Become faster you say? putting in work with .highperformance to become as fast (and resilient) as possible for the upcoming fieldhockey season 💥

Deceleration as a skill.

In (team)sports effective deceleration technique is just as important as acceleration. In fact often an athlete needs to initiate a propulsive force soon after the deceleration. If decelerated ineffectively how accelerate effectively?

All the more reason to make sure your athlete knows how to decelerate effectively. One of the key points of an effective deceleration technique is bringing the upper body closer to the knee in landing. This ensures the hamstring (vital in deceleration) to work eccentric and control the rate of deceleration.

By adding an 🌊 aquabag the athlete itself is being directed into this favourable technique/position 👌

The above example is one of many exercised I like to use in learning this skill.

GET SPRINGY!!! 💃🏽

For those of you who wonder. The definition of springy: having an elastic quality/resilient.

Being springy/resilient is a skill. A skill needed in many many sports.

If you posses it you gain the advantage. Springiness (is this even a word? 🤔) of the tendons is among other things needed for sprinting, jumping and agility.

The other way around 🔁if you do not posses this skill you not only miss out on a better performance but you are more susceptible to injury as well.

There is more out there then just jumping rope. Pick a springy spotify list and crack up the volume🔊!!

Motor learning stuff!

1) 5 second Overcoming Isometric push
2) 10 Maximum Intent (Intensive) Plyo's
3) Barefoot 20m sprint with obstacles

In the blend! 😍

Together make one hell of a stimulus to engage the most efficiënt neuromusculair pattern for ankle stiffness.

Learning/optimising a (new) skill through the right set of exercises/movements.

This is what I enjoy the most in coaching.

u crazy. Crazy fast 💥💨

Ironically i myself am recovering from a knee injury, and i am now at this point where i am able to introduce plyometrics into my rehab.

Which are ,despite highly debated about last couple of months on social media, still often overlooked or neglacted in rehab, physiotherapy or sport performance enhancement training.

It's a great way to learn the athlete ( or a very stubborn physio...) how to produce a lot of force in a very short amount of time. Which is critical in sports! Monitoring the GCT with the Gflight (from .us )gives you great insight in the way the athlete is capable of doing this.

There is a difference between intensive and extensive plyo's. Ankle dominant and knee dominant jumping and lots more fun stuff you should understand before using these in training sessions.

If you would like to have more information on how to progress your plyometrics within rehab or how to use them in sport performance enhancement i strongly suggest you keep an eye on/follow/subscribe to:
