ISCOMS - International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences ISCOMS – International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences The 29th edition was a tremendous success. Yearly, around 1000 abstracts are sent to us.

The organising committee of ISCOMS is proud to announce that the 30th edition of ISCOMS will take place from the 5th of June until the 8th of June 2023 in Groningen, the Netherlands. From those, the best abstracts are selected. Subsequently, students, who wrote these abstracts, get to present their research at ISCOMS. This year we are trying the best we can to make the congress even better, especially for those of you who are interested in acquiring a platform to share your research and gain knowledge. This will incorporate intensive contact with leading researchers in all biomedical fields, which is unique to ISCOMS! We are really looking forward to the upcoming year and we would like to wish all (bio)medical students a warm welcome to ISCOMS 2023.

The Hosting and Logistics (H&L) Committee is responsible for the hosting of the participants, the social programme during the congress and the logistics of ISCOMS 2026.

Julian is the chair of the H&L committee. He is 22 years old and studies Medicine. Julian is responsible for all of the logistics prior to and at the congress. Besides this, he oversees the committee and helps them with their tasks.

Next to the scientific programme, ISCOMS offers a broad social programme that allows participants to socialise and enjoy themselves. Each day after the congress, a different activity is organised, including a dinner. In addition, H&L is responsible for accommodation for ISCOMS 2026 participants visiting Groningen, offering discounts at several hotels and hostels throughout the city, as well as an affordable and social alternative: the ISCOMS Housing Hub. Together, Sjoerd and Lotta are in charge of the social programme, student housing and the organisation of the Post Congress Tour on the Friday after the congress. Sjoerd is a 24-year-old Pharmacy student, and Lotta is 19 years old and studies Human Movement Sciences.

As mentioned before the H&L committee handles all the logistics of the congress. This includes the plan of action. This is a book in which every detail of the congress is laid out. Odile is responsible for the plan of action. She is a 20 years old Human Movement Sciences student.

The International Contacts Committee promotes ISCOMS worldwide, supports participants during their preparations, and answers their questions.

Jasper, chairman of IC, manages the committee and assists participants with visa issues. He is 23 and studies Human Movement Sciences.

Brent and Jill handle national promotion by engaging with study associations and principal investigators to reach all (bio)medical students in the Netherlands. Both are 21 years old, with Brent studying a pre-master Business Administration: Health zetten and Jill studying Medicine.

For global promotion, IC is supported by a network of ambassadors inspired by their own ISCOMS experience.
Rosalie, the ambassador coordinator, ensures smooth operations. She is 22 and studies Dentistry.

Mika and Sara, the international promotion coordinators, focus on outreach outside the Netherlands by contacting universities and supervisors and managing the Travel Community, a WhatsApp group for participants to connect. Mika (21) studies Medicine and Sara (22) studies Psychology.

IC also handles abstract submissions, participant inquiries, and the ISCOMS Travel Grants for students needing financial aid.

ISCOMS cannot take place without its financial funding. Sponsors and Fundraising takes care of the financial resources. This committee consists of six enthusiastic, dedicated students who will commit themselves to making this congress financially possible. They will do their very best to contact and inform companies to establish good cooperation between the sponsors and ISCOMS.

Willem is the chairman of the Sponsors & Fundraising committee. He is 23 years old and studies Medicine. He is responsible for generating the funding needed to make this conference possible. Together with his committee, he achieves this through fundraising efforts and by engaging companies to sponsor ISCOMS. Together with his committee, he is contacting potential sponsors and will also pledge several funds to support ISCOMS.

Suzan and Fenne, 21 and 20 years old, are responsible for the grant applications. Jinre, Sasha, and Eise, 21, 22 and 23 years old, are responsible for establishing and maintaining contact with external companies to secure sponsorships.

*ORGANISING COMMITTEE*

The Scientific Programme Committee has the responsibility of organising the Scientific Programme of ISCOMS 2026. SP consists of 6 enthusiastic (bio)medical students, who will ensure an interesting scientific programme!

Felien Suermondt is the chair of SP. She is 21 years old and studies Medicine. Her task is to coordinate the committee. Besides this, she supervises the abstract selection to make sure that the best abstracts get te chance to be presented at the congress. In 2025, she was already active in the ISCOMS Organising Committee as a member of Media and Branding committee.

This year, Wessel is responsible for the research day. Wessel is 21 and studies Medicine. The research day will give you the opportunity to improve your research skills during masterclasses, IMEDS and a ISCOMS Elective.

On the three congress days, there will be 5 renowned researchers who will share their knowledge and experiences during the keynote lectures. Annika Haarhuis is in charge of these. She is 20 years old and is currently in studying Human Movement Science.

During the congress it is possible to attend a variety of workshops. Niels Lutgert and Fleur Verhagen are responsible for all these workshops. Niels is 22 and studies Medicine, Fleur is 22 and studies also Medicine. They are looking forward to seeing you at the workshops.

Benne Brook is in charge of the ISCOMS Research Fellowships (IRF). He is 23 years old and studies Pharmacy. The IRF is perfect for students who are interested in performing research in Groningen.

SP is a very enthusiastic and challenging committee organising a diverse and challenging scientific programme for ISCOMS 2026. They are looking forward to meeting you all in June 2026!

ORGANISING COMMITTEE

Today, we introduce you to our president, secretary and treasurer. They are responsible for overseeing the Organising Committee, as head of the Executive Board.

The president of ISCOMS 2026, Georgina Ter Haar, has the leading role in the Executive Board. She is responsible for a smooth organisation of the 33rd edition of ISCOMS. Furthermore, her task is to find suitable day chairs and jury members. Georgina is 23 years old and has just finished her Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Groningen. Two years ago, she was already active in the ISCOMS Organising Committee as a member of the Scientific Programme committee.

This year’s secretary is Wibine Roelants, she is the contact person of the organisation. During this year she will work closely with the president Georgina. Besides that, she will be responsible for all of the registrations, online and during the congress. At ISCOMS 2026 she will manage the registration desk and will be happy to welcome you. Wibine is 23 years old and has also just finished her Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Groningen. Two years ago Wibine was also active on the organising committee as a member of the Scientific Programme committee.

The treasurer of the 33rd edition of ISCOMS is Toon de Ruiter. He is responsible for all of the budgetary aspects of the congress. As treasurer, he is in charge of the incoming and outgoing money and he will manage the budget estimate for the congress. Toon is 21 years old and fulfilled the Research and Development committee two years ago! He just finished his bachelor in Dentistry at the University of Groningen.

Our Story

The ISCOMS organisation is proud to announce that the 27th edition of ISCOMS will take place from the 2nd - 5th of June 2020 in Groningen, the Netherlands. The 26th edition was a tremendous succes, with more than 700 students from 62 different countries visiting us from all around the world. Yearly, around 800 abstracts are send to us. From those, 376 got to present their research in the 26th edition of ISCOMS! This year we are working to make the congress even better for those of you interested in acquiring a platform to share your research and gain knowledge. This will incorporate intensive contact with leading researchers in all biomedical fields, which is unique to ISCOMS! We are really looking forward to the upcoming year and we would like to wish all you biomedical students a warm welcome to ISCOMS 2020.
