ISCOMS - International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences ISCOMS – International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences The 29th edition was a tremendous success. Yearly, around 1000 abstracts are sent to us.

The organising committee of ISCOMS is proud to announce that the 30th edition of ISCOMS will take place from the 5th of June until the 8th of June 2023 in Groningen, the Netherlands. From those, the best abstracts are selected. Subsequently, students, who wrote these abstracts, get to present their research at ISCOMS. This year we are trying the best we can to make the congress even better, especially for those of you who are interested in acquiring a platform to share your research and gain knowledge. This will incorporate intensive contact with leading researchers in all biomedical fields, which is unique to ISCOMS! We are really looking forward to the upcoming year and we would like to wish all (bio)medical students a warm welcome to ISCOMS 2023.

ISCOMS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 2026 – 3 DAYS LEFT TO APPLY

Are you an ambitious (bio)medical student eager to gain hands-on research experience at the University Medical Center Groningen? The ISCOMS Research Fellowship (IRF) 2026 might be your next big step.

The IRF is an intensive two-week research programme taking place directly after ISCOMS. You will actively participate in research within one of UMCG’s Research Institutes, gaining valuable academic insight and practical experience. For some students, this fellowship becomes a stepping stone toward a future PhD trajectory.

Please note: the IRF is exclusively available to students presenting their research at ISCOMS 2026.

Applications close on the first of March. Make sure you apply!

*ORGANISING COMMITTEE*

The Research and Development committee (R&D) focuses on innovating and improving every upcoming edition of the congress. Brainstorming is a key aspect of their work, as they lead brainstorm sessions in which the entire organisation thinks of new innovations and ideas. The R&D committee consist of four enthusiastic, dedicated students.

Noor is the Chair of R&D. She is responsible for overseeing the committee’s progress. She maintains ISCOMS’ partnerships, evaluates existing collaborations and explores opportunities for new ones, to advance (bio)medical congresses and scientific knowledge exchange worldwide. Noor is 22 years old and studies Business Administration: Health.

Felix is responsible for transforming ISCOMS into a more sustainable congress. He organises our ‘sustainability initiative’ and collaborates with the UMCG Green Team to exchange ideas. Together with Isabel, he manages ISCOMS’ charity, supporting ‘Prinses Máxima Centrum’. Felix studies Medicine and is 22 years old.

Isabel manages the ISCOMS app, offering attendees access to the programme, event locations, media, and more. She collaborates with Felix to organise activities for our charity. Isabel is 21 years old and studies Pharmacy.

Lastly, Bart is responsible for the website. In addition to providing the website with its lay-out, he keeps the website up to date to ensure you will receive the right information.  Bart studies Medicine and is 22 years old.
The R&D Committee strives to innovate and improve this edition of ISCOMS and looks forward to welcoming you at ISCOMS 2026!

Last week, the ISCOMS team took part in the Nacht van Groningen, with our runners taking on a range of distances throughout the night: 10km, 10 miles and even half a marathon! 🏃‍♂️💨 All to support the incredible work of the Koningin Máxima Centrum! 🧡💙

*ORGANISING COMMITTEE*

The Media and Branding committee is responsible for promoting ISCOMS and handling the graphic design of the congress. They create and design items like posters, merchandise and the Book of Abstracts, which contains all the abstracts presented during the congress. Additionally, they are in charge of managing all social media platforms. Finally, the committee is responsible for creating the promo video and trailer for ISCOMS 2026. This committee consists of five enthusiastic and creative medical students!

Nienke is the chair of the Media & Branding Committee. Her role consists of multiple tasks, including: promotion, graphic design, and overseeing the committee. Nienke is 22 years old and completed her bachelor’s degree in Medicine last year.

Jonathan and Julia, working alongside Nienke, are responsible for the graphic design of all printed materials, such as posters and the Book of Abstracts. Jonathan, aged 21, is in his second year of Medicine. Julia is 23 years old and currently in her first year of the master Dentistry.

David and Lois are both responsible for all social media platforms. They create the design of the posts and manage social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok. While David focuses on TikTok videos, Lois primarily handles social media posts. David is 21 years old and in his third year of Biomedical Technology and Lois is 24 and in her second year of Dentistry.

Nienke, Jonathan, Julia, David and Lois are dedicated to make ISCOMS 2026 a great success and they are looking forward to seeing you at ISCOMS in June!

The Hosting and Logistics (H&L) Committee is responsible for the hosting of the participants, the social programme during the congress and the logistics of ISCOMS 2026.

Julian is the chair of the H&L committee. He is 22 years old and studies Medicine. Julian is responsible for all of the logistics prior to and at the congress. Besides this, he oversees the committee and helps them with their tasks.

Next to the scientific programme, ISCOMS offers a broad social programme that allows participants to socialise and enjoy themselves. Each day after the congress, a different activity is organised, including a dinner. In addition, H&L is responsible for accommodation for ISCOMS 2026 participants visiting Groningen, offering discounts at several hotels and hostels throughout the city, as well as an affordable and social alternative: the ISCOMS Housing Hub. Together, Sjoerd and Lotta are in charge of the social programme, student housing and the organisation of the Post Congress Tour on the Friday after the congress. Sjoerd is a 24-year-old Pharmacy student, and Lotta is 19 years old and studies Human Movement Sciences.

As mentioned before the H&L committee handles all the logistics of the congress. This includes the plan of action. This is a book in which every detail of the congress is laid out. Odile is responsible for the plan of action. She is a 20 years old Human Movement Sciences student.

The International Contacts Committee promotes ISCOMS worldwide, supports participants during their preparations, and answers their questions.

Jasper, chairman of IC, manages the committee and assists participants with visa issues. He is 23 and studies Human Movement Sciences.

Brent and Jill handle national promotion by engaging with study associations and principal investigators to reach all (bio)medical students in the Netherlands. Both are 21 years old, with Brent studying a pre-master Business Administration: Health zetten and Jill studying Medicine.

For global promotion, IC is supported by a network of ambassadors inspired by their own ISCOMS experience.
Rosalie, the ambassador coordinator, ensures smooth operations. She is 22 and studies Dentistry.

Mika and Sara, the international promotion coordinators, focus on outreach outside the Netherlands by contacting universities and supervisors and managing the Travel Community, a WhatsApp group for participants to connect. Mika (21) studies Medicine and Sara (22) studies Psychology.

IC also handles abstract submissions, participant inquiries, and the ISCOMS Travel Grants for students needing financial aid.

Our Story

The ISCOMS organisation is proud to announce that the 27th edition of ISCOMS will take place from the 2nd - 5th of June 2020 in Groningen, the Netherlands. The 26th edition was a tremendous succes, with more than 700 students from 62 different countries visiting us from all around the world. Yearly, around 800 abstracts are send to us. From those, 376 got to present their research in the 26th edition of ISCOMS! This year we are working to make the congress even better for those of you interested in acquiring a platform to share your research and gain knowledge. This will incorporate intensive contact with leading researchers in all biomedical fields, which is unique to ISCOMS! We are really looking forward to the upcoming year and we would like to wish all you biomedical students a warm welcome to ISCOMS 2020.
