ISCOMS - International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences ISCOMS – International Student Congress Of (bio)Medical Sciences The 29th edition was a tremendous success. Yearly, around 1000 abstracts are sent to us.

The organising committee of ISCOMS is proud to announce that the 30th edition of ISCOMS will take place from the 5th of June until the 8th of June 2023 in Groningen, the Netherlands. From those, the best abstracts are selected. Subsequently, students, who wrote these abstracts, get to present their research at ISCOMS. This year we are trying the best we can to make the congress even better, especi

ally for those of you who are interested in acquiring a platform to share your research and gain knowledge. This will incorporate intensive contact with leading researchers in all biomedical fields, which is unique to ISCOMS! We are really looking forward to the upcoming year and we would like to wish all (bio)medical students a warm welcome to ISCOMS 2023.

On Tuesday, April 14th, we hosted the fifth edition of the ISCOMS Corporate Member Meeting, a wonderful evening at the Prinsenhof in Groningen with our valued partners and stakeholders from the UMCG.

Over a delicious dinner, guests connected and engaged in inspiring conversations.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, and to Prof. Wiro Niessen for the warm opening words. Your continued support means the world to us.

The Sustainability Award 2026 recognises a participant who has shown outstanding commitment to sustainability over the past year. Whether through personal choices, innovative initiatives, or meaningful contributions to a more sustainable future, this is an opportunity to share your impact.

Submit a short entry (maximum 350 words) explaining what you have done to promote sustainability, why it matters, and how you plan to continue making a difference.

The winner will receive a prize of €150 and will be selected by the ISCOMS Research & Development Committee.

We are proud to welcome Professor Barbara Seeliger MD PhD FACS as one of our keynote speakers. She is a Surgeon Scientist at the Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire Strasbourg, the Institute of Image-Guided Surgery, and the University Hospitals of Strasbourg. She is also a researcher at the ICube Laboratory of the University of Strasbourg, where her work focuses on robotics, data and imaging for surgery and interventional procedures. Internationally recognised for her contributions to minimally invasive and robotic surgery, Professor Seeliger has built a remarkable binational career combining clinical practice as a visceral surgeon with biomedical research and technological innovation. Her research has advanced image guided surgery through fluorescence and optical imaging, particularly in endocrine and digestive surgery, and contributes to the development of computer assisted surgical approaches. In recognition of her work, she received the BJS Prize from the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons in 2020 for her research on intraoperative quantitative imaging combined with adrenal functional assessment. With ISCOMS, we had the opportunity to help several people who were not able to do it themselves through Stichting Present by supporting them with painting, gardening and decorating their homes. It was a valuable experience that showed how practical help can make a real difference in people’s lives. We are proud to have contributed and to support a stronger, more caring community. 💛

ISCOMS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 2026 – 3 DAYS LEFT TO APPLY

Are you an ambitious (bio)medical student eager to gain hands-on research experience at the University Medical Center Groningen? The ISCOMS Research Fellowship (IRF) 2026 might be your next big step.

The IRF is an intensive two-week research programme taking place directly after ISCOMS. You will actively participate in research within one of UMCG’s Research Institutes, gaining valuable academic insight and practical experience. For some students, this fellowship becomes a stepping stone toward a future PhD trajectory.

Please note: the IRF is exclusively available to students presenting their research at ISCOMS 2026.

Applications close on the first of March. Make sure you apply!

*ORGANISING COMMITTEE*

The Research and Development committee (R&D) focuses on innovating and improving every upcoming edition of the congress. Brainstorming is a key aspect of their work, as they lead brainstorm sessions in which the entire organisation thinks of new innovations and ideas. The R&D committee consist of four enthusiastic, dedicated students.

Noor is the Chair of R&D. She is responsible for overseeing the committee’s progress. She maintains ISCOMS’ partnerships, evaluates existing collaborations and explores opportunities for new ones, to advance (bio)medical congresses and scientific knowledge exchange worldwide. Noor is 22 years old and studies Business Administration: Health.

Felix is responsible for transforming ISCOMS into a more sustainable congress. He organises our ‘sustainability initiative’ and collaborates with the UMCG Green Team to exchange ideas. Together with Isabel, he manages ISCOMS’ charity, supporting ‘Prinses Máxima Centrum’. Felix studies Medicine and is 22 years old.

Isabel manages the ISCOMS app, offering attendees access to the programme, event locations, media, and more. She collaborates with Felix to organise activities for our charity. Isabel is 21 years old and studies Pharmacy.

Lastly, Bart is responsible for the website. In addition to providing the website with its lay-out, he keeps the website up to date to ensure you will receive the right information.  Bart studies Medicine and is 22 years old.
The R&D Committee strives to innovate and improve this edition of ISCOMS and looks forward to welcoming you at ISCOMS 2026!

The ISCOMS organisation is proud to announce that the 27th edition of ISCOMS will take place from the 2nd - 5th of June 2020 in Groningen, the Netherlands. The 26th edition was a tremendous succes, with more than 700 students from 62 different countries visiting us from all around the world. Yearly, around 800 abstracts are send to us. From those, 376 got to present their research in the 26th edition of ISCOMS! This year we are working to make the congress even better for those of you interested in acquiring a platform to share your research and gain knowledge. This will incorporate intensive contact with leading researchers in all biomedical fields, which is unique to ISCOMS!
