At Tomatoworld, camera-based monitoring enables early detection of pests and diseases, and AI alerts are translated into direct cultivation actions, supporting targeted checks and interventions in the greenhouse.

We can now see pests and diseases cheaper, better and earlier to prevent potential damage. Structural scouting allows us to identify the causes and to address these thanks to our partner Fermata.

Their Croptimus™ is a camera-based AI scouting platform for automated pest & disease detection in greenhouses. The system is fully autonomous and monitors crops continuously.

Croptimus™ is scanning for 25+ potential problems, issues AI alerts and analytics, so we can take direct cultivation actions, if and when needed.

Camera-based AI monitoring enables early and efficient detection of pests and diseases, supporting targeted checks and interventions in the greenhouse, reducing input and labor costs, as well as crop losses.

Small tomatoes contain relatively less water and more flavor compounds per gram. This results in a more intense taste experience: more sweetness, more umami.

In the greenhouse, this is no coincidence. Variety selection, cultivation strategy, and harvest timing play a major role in how flavor develops.

At Tomatoworld, we show how these choices are made in practice. From tomatoes of different sizes side by side to explanations of how technology and data contribute to flavor, quality, and sustainable cultivation. In this way, we connect practical knowledge with education and make greenhouse horticulture tangible for a wide audience.

𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏

Hi! My name is Roxi and I started my internship at Tomatoworld last week.

I am 22 years old and live in Vlaardingen. I am studying Business Studies at Inholland University of Applied Sciences in Rotterdam and am currently in my third year. In my spare time, I enjoy playing hockey and spending time with friends.

During my internship, I will be involved in marketing activities, and I hope to become familiar with various areas of marketing and learn more about what I enjoy most within this field.

For a school assignment, I will be conducting a small study within Tomatoworld about the social media policy.

I look forward to gaining experience and working with the team.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗫𝗧 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱

New generations that understand data, models, and cultivation are essential to bringing innovation into the greenhouse. That is why Tomatoworld introduces students to the practice of data-driven greenhouse horticulture at an early stage, as part of the Human Capital Agenda of NXTGEN Hightech Agrifood.

We recently kicked off a Fontys research project in which Applied Mathematics students are working on modeling values between sensor locations in the greenhouse. They are working with data from the Robocrops data hub: the digital field lab with practical data from NXTGEN greenhouse horticulture.

In our greenhouse, the students gained practical insight: which sensors are located where, what do we measure, and why? This was followed by an explanation of how the Robocrops data hub is structured and how this data accelerates innovation in the sector. Afterwards, there was a tour of the World Horti Center.

This gave the students a concrete picture of how theory and practice come together. The initial reactions? Positive surprise at the innovative power of the greenhouse horticulture sector.

Next week, the students will present their results to a professional jury. With projects like this, we demonstrate how data and practice reinforce each other and how we are working together to build the next generation of professionals for a future-proof greenhouse horticulture sector.

Last week, we kicked off 2026 with a team building day that was both fun and productive. We started with a team session at Tomatoworld to discuss our goals for 2026, then we had to get to work by joining forces to escape from an exciting escape room at Westcapeland.

All that enthusiastic teamwork naturally worked up an appetite, so we ended the evening with a delicious and enjoyable dinner. It was great to connect with each other as a team in a different way than at work.
