Training for your first race block starts now. Fuel it properly.

Races are decided in training, not on race day. Training your legs is obvious, but training your gut is not. High carbohydrate intake only works if you have trained it. Long runs and quality sessions make intake automatic: how much you tolerate, when you take it, all without breaking rhythm.

The goal is not just to reach the start line; it’s to finish on a system that holds.

Carbs move faster when you use more than one source. 02 During blends maltodextrin, glucose and fructose in a 2:1:1,5 ratio. Maltodextrin lowers osmotic pressure at equal grams versus single sugars. Glucose fuels rapidly. Fructose adds parallel uptake when gut-trained and tested at intensity.

Glucose uses SGLT1, which commonly becomes rate-limited near 60 g/h in race feeding volumes. Fructose uses GLUT5. Two transporters work in parallel. Total carbohydrate uptake and oxidation odds increase when the gut is conditioned and doses are trialled at race pace.

One formula combining 45 g of carbohydrate and 343 mg of sodium per drink portion supports fluid uptake via sodium-dependent co-transport of carbohydrate and water, helping maintain plasma volume as sweat losses rise. Hydration support comes from the integrated carbohydrate-sodium system, not sodium alone.

Amsterdam woke cool and calm - the kind of still air that makes the city fast. Along the Amstel, through Vondelpark, and into the Olympic Stadium, conditions were nearly perfect for disciplined running.

Four Victus athletes lined up with their own goals, their own pace, and their own story to run.

Luuk controlled the race from start to finish — 2:16:42.
Ivo found rhythm early and held form — 2:28:09.
Hung ran steady, precise, and strong — 2:50:34.
Ruben crossed the line under three hours — 2:58:48.
