The holiday season is approaching, and at Yes We Can Youth Clinics it is a warm and special time of year. Behind these meaningful days are the heroes of the Sports & Development Programme team. Today we speak with Ferry (Sports & Development Programme Officer). Together with his team, they start building months in advance on something that can’t be captured in a script: experience. They play a role in everything connected to sport, play and connection.

Bring a piece of Yes We Can into your home this holiday season. 💙✨

What once started as a spontaneous idea has grown into an annual Christmas tradition. This year, we are making it extra special: we are launching not one, but two brand-new Christmas ornaments. A vinyl record to spin your Yes We Can Christmas playlist, and a star bearing the message “Together We Shine”. Who knows — they may soon be shining in your Christmas tree. 🎄

We invite you to share your most heartfelt Christmas wish for our fellows in the comments. We will pass these on to them in a creative and loving way during the Christmas dinner. On Thursday the 18th of December, we will randomly select a number of winners, who will then receive the Christmas ornaments by post as soon as possible. 💌

Together, we will make it a warm and meaningful Christmas.

Christmas is all about togetherness, love, warmth and connection, yet for many young people December is actually the most difficult month of the year. While everyone around them is celebrating, they struggle with loneliness that no one notices, high expectations, and a sense of not being understood. Alessia, a former fellow and now an expert by experience at Yes We Can, knows this feeling better than anyone:

“I never felt safe at home, so Christmas was a heavy moment for me. I actually wanted to escape it as much as possible. Time after time, I put on a mask; it had to look fun for the outside world. I felt lonely, surrounded by people who didn’t understand me.”

Between scratch cards and Christmas lights ✨

At Yes We Can Youth Clinics, we see every year how quickly “just joining in” can shift into “I’ve lost myself”. Since 2022, the number of registrations for gambling addiction has risen by 50%.

December is full of triggers: New Year’s lottery tickets, scratch-card promotions, sports fixtures and online “one-off” bonuses. What seems harmless can be exactly the button that gets switched back on.

Instead of the usual Christmas stockings, our fellows woke up to a wonderful surprise: a shoe filled with a gift from Sinterklaas and his Pieten. A Dutch tradition that simply couldn’t be missed for our international fellows. What followed was a day full of festive activities and a surprise visit from the Good Saint himself.

To show that new, meaningful memories can take shape in a life in recovery, we at Yes We Can Youth Clinics do everything we can to make December a truly special month for our fellows. 🙏 This afternoon already felt like a gift — bright smiles, genuine connection, and a warm sense of togetherness.

It became an unforgettable Sinterklaas celebration, one we hope will be cherished for a long time to come. Everything for our fellows, each and every day. 💙

There was a knock at the door… 🎁

The holiday spirit was already in full swing at our clinic in Hilvarenbeek last weekend, as Sinterklaas and his Pieten paid a visit to the children of our colleagues. It was a morning filled with joy and wonder, with bags of treats and presents. Meanwhile, the Pieten kept everyone entertained with cheerful dancing, and dozens of little faces were beautifully painted.

What truly made this day unforgettable was the warmth of our Yes We Can family. Coming together, seeing the children enjoy themselves, and witnessing the proud looks on their parents’ faces showed how special our team is — both inside and outside of work. 🙏

A big thank you to all colleagues, the little helper-Pieten for their beautiful handmade artwork, and of course to Sinterklaas and his Pieten. You made it a magical, memorable day. ✨
