โHow was that for you?โ
She looks at me, a hint of doubt in her eyes.
โUhโฆ fine?โ she says.
โFine?โ
โYesโฆโ she begins to explain what she drew.
I gently interrupt: โAnd what was happening while you were drawing?โ
She pauses. โIโm not sureโฆโ
โI noticed you frown, and then smile. What was going on there?โ
She thinks for a moment, then says, โOhhh, I was thinking...โ
โMmm,โ I respond, โso there were thoughts.โ
โYes. I was thinking, gosh, I really canโt draw at all. So I just scribbled something, and then I had to laugh at how it turned out.โ
โOkay, I saw you frown first, when that thought came.
Did you also notice anything in your body? A sensation, maybe a tingling?โ
She touches her belly. โYes, hereโฆ it didnโt feel so good.โ
โNot good?โ
โNo, more like a heavy feeling,โ she answers.
โAnd would you be willing to stay with that feeling for a moment?โ I ask.
โJust place your hand thereโฆ feet on the ground, and if it feels okay, you can close your eyes.โ
She lays her hand on her stomach and really triesโI can see it in her whole posture.
โYou were drawing, there were thoughts, and there was also a sensation in your body.โ
She nods, eyes closed. I see emotion welling up in her eyes.

At the end of the session she says: โItโs amazing, really. I think so much that I completely overlook what Iโm actually feeling in my body.โ
โAnd noticing that will be a challenge to take with you into the next session,โ I reply with a smile.
