FIP CPS Summit 2026 Update – 03 | Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦
The third day of the visit of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) delegation to Sarajevo was marked by high-level meetings that opened new opportunities for the development of the pharmaceutical profession and the advancement of the health system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Representatives of the Chamber of Masters of Pharmacy of the Federation of BiH, members of the Executive Board of the FIP Community Pharmacy Section (CPS), and FIP President Paul Sinclair began the day with a joint meeting to discuss future collaboration. Key discussions focused on introducing new pharmaceutical services such as pharmacist prescribing for selected therapeutic groups and vaccination in pharmacies. FIP also offered expert support through research methodology and study design to generate strong evidence demonstrating how pharmacists can improve therapeutic outcomes and contribute to cost savings in the health system.
A key meeting was held at the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Minister Dr. Sc. Dubravka Bošnjak, Assistant Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Sc. Jurica Arapović, and the Head of the Minister’s Cabinet Davor Bošnjak. The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, and the representatives of the Chamber were encouraged by the Minister’s strong support for initiatives aimed at expanding the role of pharmacists in the healthcare system, including pharmaceutical prescribing and the development of new pharmaceutical services.
On this occasion, Minister Bošnjak also expressed full support for Sarajevo’s candidacy to host the FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2028 or 2029—an important step toward positioning Bosnia and Herzegovina on the global pharmaceutical and scientific map.
During the day, the delegation also met with the management of the Public Health Institute of the Federation of BiH, where strong support was expressed for involving pharmacists in public health initiatives such as vaccination programs, preventive services, and pilot projects demonstrating the benefits of pharmaceutical interventions for patients and the health system.
As part of the visit, a regional meeting was organized with representatives of pharmaceutical chambers from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro, together with members of the FIP CPS Executive Board and the FIP President. This gathering further strengthened regional collaboration and the exchange of experiences in developing modern pharmaceutical practice.
The visit of the FIP delegation once again confirmed the vital role pharmacists play in modern healthcare systems and highlighted the significant potential of Bosnia and Herzegovina to further improve healthcare through international cooperation, innovation, and new pharmaceutical services.
