A 2015 study conducted by the University of California found that each time you resist the urge to act on anger, you actively rewire your brain to become calmer and more compassionate. This process, known as neuroplasticity, strengthens neural pathways associated with self-control and empathy while simultaneously weakening those linked to impulsive anger responses.
By engaging the prefrontal cortex—the area of the brain responsible for decision-making and emotional regulation—you can develop a more measured and thoughtful approach to handling emotional triggers, ultimately fostering a more composed and compassionate mindset.
