Hi all,

I know we've been quite here the last year. Last minute I've decided to run 2 AK workshops 1-2 March and 29-30 March. The flyer with the details is attached.

I'll be limiting the places to no more than 8 people and will run a workshop style with lots of practical work and case studies.

The price is very low for a weekend workshop to reflect that I'll be sending e-notes and it'll be a simple lunch.

If you are interested please contact Sharon to register at info@hanzechiropractie.nl or message me here

Hopefully see some of you there.

Interesting piece on Cranial/sacral work

: To study whether the CST in the human suboccipital region could have a remote effect on the flexibility of the hamstring muscles, the Cochrane Library, Medline/Pubmed, CNKI, Embase, and Google Scholar were searched. Clinical trials assessing the effects of CST in short hamstring syndrome patients....

“Proprioceptive medicine” - Nice term what does it mean?

When a joint or joint complex is not functioning as chiropractors or Osteopaths we look to restore movement. This changes the afferent input into the brain. We use this principle everyday in our work. If you combine this work with the research being done by the likes of Professor van de Kolk we see that increased afferent input to the cerebral cortex has an inhibitory effect on the sympathetic nervous system. When the sympathetic nervous system is active we see hyperactivity in the right temporal lobe and the occipital lobe with reduced activity in the cortex (see attached photo) (and for all the functional neuro people out there I know this is neurology shorthand!). Thus the right adjustment in the right place can reduce stress! This is the principle we use when teaching how to address past injury pattens in weekend 1 of the course.

Manual muscle testing is just one of the tools we can use to locate the precise location and direction of correction for a joint complex to make our adjustments more effective. If you are interested why not drop us a line info@hanzechiropractie.nl or come on the next course starting 24/25 Sept.

“When we ask why instead of what, we have a totally different insight into peoples health”

This sentence is, for me, one of the fundamental principles of our course. The correct diagnosis identifies red flags and tells us if we can go ahead and treat someone. But asking why someone has and problem and also sometimes why someone still has a problem after many years, takes us a long way into building an appropriate treatment plan. It also, in my opinion, makes us a truly holistic practitioner. A treatment plan should include physical, chemical and emotional aspects. All 3 of these areas can be broken down into Systemic and local problems. Local problems are nearly always a result of systemic faults. Here are some examples:-

Physical Stress, Systemic - Scars, Trauma, operations, cranial faults. Local - overuse injuries, tendonitis, bursitis

Chemical Stress, Systemic - Inflammation. Local - Local organ issues such as GI disturbances

Emotional Stress, Systemic - Limiting belief systems. Local - Work deadlines, family issues, agreements

On the course we teach realistic and straightforward technique to address all 3 areas. For example Inflammation is largely a result (although not always) of bringing prostaglandins, homocysteine or histamine under control, all of these have a relationship with insulin and sugar. The right physical exercise taught in the right way can be used to help someone to bring the emotions and inflammation under control. If you’re interested the 1st weekend is 24/25 Sept and you can contact us for more at info@hanzechiropracie.nl

“Most knee problems do not start in the knee - the knee is a local reaction to something higher in the the muscle chain”

Have you ever considered origins of the Ilio-Psoas muscle? The Psoas starts from T12 and L1- L4 (or L3 is listed in some texts) but not L5. Illiacus originates from the medial surface of the ilium and both insert onto the lesser trochanter of the femur. So when one side is strong or normal and the other side is weaker this will result in T12 through L4 rotating towards the side of the strength and L 5 rotating away.

Iliopsoas is a hip flexor and external rotator. This means in compensation there will be hyper tonic reactions in the piriformis and recus femoris and vastus lateralis parts of the quadriceps. This causes an imbalance in the knee, resulting in poor knee stability, resulting in runners knee type problems. Put this into context with the last 2 posts and is it possible then that a TMJ issue could be the cause of a knee problem?

Manual Muscle Testing therefore give us a valuable tool to start to solve these types of problems. if you are interested in really understanding how muscle chains work why not try our course starting 24/25 September or contact us at info@hanzechiropractie.nl

So in the last post we looked at the movement between the TMJ and C1/2. If we take this a step further and look at the Lovett brother relationship in the attached slide then we can see that any reaction in C1/2 will in turn produce an effect in L4/5 during the gait cycle.

By stimulating a joint complex we can see a change in the muscle chain and through this we can start to isolate problems and apply the corrections. Manual Muscle testing gives us a great tool to do this with.

If you’d like to learn more there are naturally still places on the next course that starts on 24/25 Sept or contact us at info@hanzechiropractie.nl

The TMJ is a closed chain that operates with C1/2. Anterior head carriage causes the TMJ to sit posterior and it means it cannot move anterior with opening. This causes a reaction in the upper cervicals see the video attached. This is commonly seen with chronic stress, upper cross syndrome and sometimes after intense dental work such as having a brace fitted. If we then look at the full mechanical chain this can have a direct impact on other things such as foot pronation and lower back stability. If this interests you and you would like to learn more then we still have places on the new course that starts on 24/25 Sept. Flyer with the full details are attached.
