Francis og Preben var opne om sine psykiske vanskar, så kvifor skulle ikkje eg - musikkterapeuten i bandet? På Verdensdagen for psykisk helse fortalte eg historia mi i Avisa Hordaland. Torsdag spelar eg solo på Polyfonkonserten på Bergen Kjøtt. Eg representerer musikkterapeutane sitt innslag på konserten, men eg kunne like godt vore ein musikkterapibrukar. For på ein måte var Francis og Preben heldigare enn meg. Dei fekk tilbod om musikkterapi. Det gjorde ikkje eg. DPS-et kunne ikkje tilby musikkterapi på avdelinga der eg var innlagt grunna ressursmangel. Dersom musikkterapi hadde vore ein del av behandlinga mi trur eg at eg hadde komt meg fortare. Me treng med andre ord fleire musikkterapuetar i psykisk helsevern - minst to per DPS, tenker eg. Dette kjem eg til å seie litt om frå scena på torsdag, mellom dei to låtane eg skal spele; "Humla" og "Spiders In My Brain". Vonar du tek turen: Torsdag kl. 20.00 på Bergen Kjøtt. Vel møtt!
Francis and Preben were open about their mental difficulties, so why shouldn't I - the music therapist in the band? On World Mental Health Day, I told my story in Avisa Hordaland. On Thursday I play solo at the Polyfon concert at Bergen Kjøtt. I represent the music therapists at the concert, but I could just as well be a music therapy service user. Because in a way, Francis and Preben were luckier than me. They were offered music therapy. I didn't. The DPS (clinic) could not offer music therapy in the ward where I was admitted due to a lack of resources. If music therapy had been part of my treatment, I think I would have recovered more quickly. In other words, we need more music therapists in mental healthcare in Norway - at least two per clinic I think. I will say a little about this from the stage on Thursday, between the two songs I will play; "Humla" (Bumblebee) and "Spiders In My Brain". Hope you make the trip: Thursday 20PM at Bergen Kjøtt.
