The sun, daylight, sun exposure is protective against most types of cancer.

Reconsider your relationship with the sun and read the Swedish study if you are in doubt.

The more time you spend outside, the healthier you are and the longer you live.

You have been programmed to fear the sun when in actual fact your should have been educated to respect the sun and understand your own ability to deal with the sun so that you can maximise your exposure sensibly.

Now - in Norway at this time of year, this isn't really an issue, but daylight and light are. Outside still matters.

Every morning the low-angle sun sends blue light (460–485 nm) straight into the opsins on your forearms, neck, and face. Yes they are some of the most important areas.

5 years ago I posted this image!

5 years on - almost nothing has changed, people are still buying red light therapy for a multitude of reasons, but the main reasons stay the same.

In those 5 years, the research has only got better and so have my understanding, offerings and service.

The red light offerings have improved each year, the additional options also continue to improve. The information that comes with any purchases is getting more and more detailed.

The great thing is that for every improvement in my understanding, every development in programming or intervention - the results can get better.

Does Red Light therapy work?

A new blog underlines the science behind red light and why it is more than just a fad - it actually works!

Whilst there are some false claims by less than honorable companies out there that are ruining it for everyone, pick the right company and you will find that it lives up to the expectations (if you expectations are reasonable).

If you see outlandish claims about what red light therapy can do - run a mile from that company! I saw one company claim their device cured acne in a week - nope, no it didn't. Can it help clear acne - yes. Can help reduce outbreak frequency and severity - also yes. In a week, no! It might start to clear it up in 1-2 weeks and you will notice a difference, but true results will take weeks to month. This a case of claim that has truth in it and there is no need to over-exaggerate as the results are good enough without it.

Does red light therapy work - for many things yes! Results vary, it is light but it has the potential to change aspects of your life if you let it and are consistent. Especially here in Norway, we are so light deprived!

I am always interested in light, it's pe*******on depth, absorption and what the different wavelengths do. It is important to understand that the longer the wavelength doesn't necessarily mean the greater the pe*******on. If you look at the graphic above - there are two stand out wavelengths - 810nm being the deepest penetrating, followed by 1064.

The paper looked at porcine (pig) cheeks which are often used because they have similar features to human tissue.

The complete wavelength absorption was as follows: Ranking (Most to Least Absorbed): 2940 nm > 2780 nm > 450 nm > 480 nm > 532 nm > 1341 nm > 632 nm > 940 nm > 980 nm > 1064 nm > 810 nm

What can you take from a paper such as this?

For me, it is about further understanding the depth and thermal relaxation time (TRT). It is good seeing papers come out showing that my previous research and design of panels is still holding true. I recently made a panel for a customer looking for optimal pe*******on so we went about focusing on 810nm and 1060nm.

If you are looking for the best wavelengths for pe*******on - start with the 800's as they are good. After that, look specifically at 810nm and even 1060nm if you are able to. Next up would be my suggestion to make sure that these wavelengths are in good quantity - not the miniscule amount that some companies put in them (like 4, 8 or 12 LEDs) just so they can market them as having that wavelength.

It must be noted that it isn't all about pe*******on, some issues don't require deep pe*******on or wavelengths that can pe*****te deeply, then you might wish to consider things like TRT. TRT looks at the time it takes for the tissue to heat up but also cool down. The higher the absorption, the quicker the heating. You might feel that if you use normal red and infrared devices. Have both red and infrared on, then turn the red off and you might feel the difference in TRT. There are other contributing factors as well such as irradiance, but some of it is probably down to TRT.

The more you learn about the light, the better placed you are to improve your health.

I work from home a lot a the moment and sometimes that involves some late evenings. I bought this and an incandescent bulb thanks to Dominic's suggestion. He suggested the incandescent bulb from a different company and I admired that about him, he seems like he really cares when you chat to him. I also purchased a desk lamp as I wanted something portable that I could use for my desk and for reading to my son, it works perfectly! Although the one thing I dislike is that I now have to buy another as my son has stolen it for his room haha.
