Europe´s medical conference for MS, ECTRIMS is now underway in Amsterdam. Over the next few days we will report highlights from the meeting.
But first an interesting look at ECTRIMS Hub - where hot news is reported. Lifestyle choices are recognised as important and the gut bacteria (microbiome) is considered an external factor in MS development. Interestingly, one report describes not only gut microbiome but also the oral (mouth) microbiome as important and other research suggests the inflammatory gut might not only affect MS but also depression. It shows that MS is multifactorial and affects people in different ways and its going to get more complex as we learn more.
The potential influence of diet and lifestyle on quality of life for individuals with MS has received considerable focus within the MS and neurological research community. Recently, in the ECTRIMS Hub, we noted how studies in the Netherlands [1] and Italy [2] demonstrated physical and mental health....
