What I’ve discovered over the past year is that parents receive very little information when their child needs a gastostomy to be able to receive food, and the information we do get is very brief. The only thing we were told by the hospital was that our son had to have conventional enteral nutrition, and nothing else. They believed he couldn’t tolerate any other kind of food because he was so weak.
The reason he needed a gastrostomy was because of the chemotherapy and the surgery he went through. His body was weak, and eating on his own simply wasn’t possible. He often got sick after receiving conventional enteral food, so we started to think differently, maybe the food wasn´t right for him? So we started looking for options with real food.
I first heard about Hiquid Food through parent groups on Facebook, but none of the dietitians or doctors had heard of it when I mentioned it. They questioned whether it was safe, whether the production process was clean enough and the quality high enough.
We found the information on Hiquid Food’s website to be very reassuring, and we’ve had no issues with infection. In fact, we’ve seen great progress in how his digestion has improved, his weight has increased, and he stays healthy, strong, and full of energy.
It’s important to understand how vital nutrition is when you’re in this kind of situation. For parents who have never experienced something like this, being able to ease the burden is a huge help. How are we supposed to feed our child when he can’t eat by himself?
A varied diet is so important, and since the gut is the body’s “second brain,” the food we choose directly affects health. For us, as parents who prepare homemade blended real food, Hiquid Food truly makes our everyday life easier! You simply take the powder, measure it, mix it with liquid, and you can add extras if you want to.
