Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche passed away

From the depths of my heart, I pay homage to the vast and noble life of Kyabje Maniwa Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, who has now entered mahaparinirvana. Rinpoche dedicated his entire life to the flourishing of the Dharma, carrying the blessings of our Karma Kagyu lineage with unwavering faith and strength. Through tireless activities of teaching, guiding and inspiring disciples across the world, he became a living embodiment of compassion and devotion. For Buddhism and our Lineage , his contribution is immeasurable. Today, as we reflect upon his passing, we are reminded of the truth of impermanence: that even the most radiant lights must eventually dissolve into the vast expanse of dharmakaya. Yet Rinpoche’s legacy is not lost- his teachings, his blessings and his example remain engraved in our hearts.

To his followers, I offer this consolation- though his physical form is no longer with us, his blessings, teachings, and compassion remain ever-present. By continuing the practices he so dearly upheld and by embodying the kindness he lived, we ensure that his presence and his legacy will never fade. In honoring his memory through practice and devotion, we keep his guidance alive within our hearts and on our path to liberation.

"What arises from wisdom is not activity, but the ability to let everything go."

Are men and women considered equal in Buddhism?

𝐋𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐎𝐥𝐞’𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫:

In Tibetan Buddhism, yes. But there are three different levels in Buddhism:

1) In Theravada Buddhism, the male principle is considered to be higher than the female. It is said that on the last step to enlightenment one must take rebirth as a man. Women are seen more as dangerous distractions for the monks.

2) In Mahayana Buddhism, it is said that the male mind is stronger. But even here men and women are more or less on the same level.

3) And in Diamond Way Buddhism, the male and female principles are equally important. Male or female alone is too little. The point is that we learn from each other, that we complement each other. On the inner level, the female is wisdom and the male is activity. And on the secret level, the female is space and the male bliss. In Diamond Way Buddhism, one can’t say “better” or “worse.” It is a matter of realizing both and bringing both together.

That’s why on the highest level of enlightenment, the Maha-Annuttara Yoga Ta**ra, there are only male and female buddhas in union.

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message after the deadly plane crash in India.

Dear Dharma friends,

It is with tremendous sadness that I have been following the events unfolding since last Thursday, when an Air India plane bound for London crashed in the Indian city of Ahmedabad.
It was the worst aviation disaster in India in three decades, and the images of the plane crashing mere moments into the flight and hitting a medical college in a residential area before erupting into a ball of fire, have gone around the world and will stay with us for a long time.

So far at least 270 bodies have been recovered at the site of the crash, including all the passengers except one and all the crew members on board the plane, as well as dozens of people on the ground. Many more were injured, with some of them still in critical care.

Most bodies were charred or mutilated, and the local authorities are still working to identify them, as their relatives wait to perform their last rites.

Some families and friends, both of those who were on board and those on the ground when the plane hit, are still awaiting information about their loved ones, with some clinging to the fragile hope of survival. This feeling of uncertainty further adds to the suffering of the affected communities.

Of course, as Buddhists we are continuously reminded to keep in mind the impermanence and the uncertainty of life – cultivating this constant awareness is one of the most important trainings on our path. However, when impermanence strikes in such a brutal and violent way, it is especially hard to deal with the ensuing loss and grief, and all words of comfort and encouragement ring hollow in the face of this pain.

Therefore, dear Dharma friends, rather than making many words, let us dedicate our aspirations and the merit of our practice to all the victims of this disaster, the deceased and the bereaved alike, and let us make the fervent wish that they may find the peace that they are yearning for.

With prayers

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa
