Half of the demand for medicines domestic production.
Nepal has started to produce 50 percent of the required medicines. Entrepreneurs have stated that the domestic production has increased to only 50 percent from 10 percent a few years ago.
Nepal's pharmaceutical market is around Rs 45 to 50 billion. At present, 50 percent of the production is in indigenous industries, while the rest of the medicines are imported from India and other countries.
The industrialists claim that Nepal can be made 80 to 90 percent self-sufficient in medicine as soon as a suitable environment is created. For this, the pharmaceutical industry has suggested to create a conducive environment accordingly by amending the government policy and law. For this, it is said that the existing drug act 2035 should be amended.
During the discussion held by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) with the pharmaceutical industry, the Federation of Nepali Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said that the preamble of all laws and regulations related to pharmaceutical industry has a language that discourages industry and business.
In the welcome and congratulatory program organized by the Federation in honor of the newly elected office bearers and working committee members of the Nepal Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (APON), the pharmaceutical manufacturers have expressed their commitment to fully support the FNCCI's National Economic Transformation Roadmap (NET) 2030.
FNCCI President Shekhar Golchha congratulated the officials of the Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and urged them to cooperate in the successful implementation of NET 2030 brought by the federation with the aim of brightening the economic future of the country.
FNCCI Vice Presidents Dinesh Shrestha and Anjan Shrestha assured that the federation has always given high priority to solving the problems of its members.
Prajwal Jung Pandey, president of the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, said that medicine was made in Nepal even a few years ago. He claimed that the country could become self-reliant in the next few years with the proper support of the government.
