😮 Bir Hospital has successfully carried out a rare brain surgery on a 103-year-old woman, one of the few such cases worldwide.

Brought in unconscious with severe brain bleeding, doctors decided to operate despite major medical and ethical challenges. The surgery was successful, and the patient has since regained consciousness, can speak, and eat on her own. Doctors say neurosurgery at such an advanced age is extremely uncommon.

This recent image from the White Coat Ceremony at RAHS brings back a flood of memories.

Those early MBBS days…
A new college. A new environment. New faces everywhere.
There was excitement which was pure and electric but it was always mixed with a quiet fear. A fear of the unknown. Of whether I was truly ready.

The dissection hall.
That sharp smell of formalin the moment I stepped in.

One day I was studying earthworms and basic biology. The next, I was holding the sternum of an actual human being - someone who once lived, breathed, laughed and I was expected to memorize every ridge, every border, every attachment.

It felt like a sudden leap in mental capacity.
Too much information for such a young brain.
And yet… it was mesmerizing.
To study the human body not just from diagrams, but in reality. To witness the complexity of life in silence.

Overwhelming. Humbling. Beautiful.
