Thank you, Respected Prime Minister!

📢 Geriatric Society of Nepal Delegation Meets the Right Honorable Prime Minister of Nepal

Geriatric Society of Nepal (GSN) submitted key recommendations to strengthen geriatric health services and policies in Nepal. The delegation highlighted the following priorities:

1️. Medical Education Regulation for Geriatric Programs:
We requested an amendment to the National Medical Education Regulation 2077 to include MD in Geriatric Medicine and Master in Geriatric Nursing. Since Prime Minister is the Chair of the Medical Education Commission, we sincerely request an amendment to enable the initiation of these programs.
2️. Creation and Fulfillment of Geriatric Medicine in Government Positions:
Although Geriatric Medicine is listed as a specialized service under the Public Health Service Regulation 2077, no government posts have been created or filled. We urged the government to establish official positions and initiate recruitment through the Public Service Commission.
3️. Activation of Senior Citizens Committees as per the Senior Citizens Act 2063:
We emphasized the need to activate the Central Senior Citizens Committee and ensure regular meetings and functioning. We also called for local governments to develop procedures and form Senior Citizen Committees in every ward.

GSN remains committed to advocating for healthy ageing, improved geriatric care, and effective policy implementation for Nepal’s older population.

🌿 Age-Friendly City (ज्येष्ठ नागरिकमैत्री शहर) Initiative 🌿

On 19 November, 2025 GSN and WHO officials successfully conducted the second round of the Age-Friendly City Consultative Meeting with Lalitpur Metropolitan City. The discussion focused on advancing efforts to make Lalitpur a more inclusive, accessible, and supportive city for older persons.

Together, we are working towards building a model age-friendly city that promotes dignity, wellbeing, and active ageing.

🌿 Towards an Age-Friendly Kathmandu! 🌿
Geriatric Society of Nepal (GSN) had a meaningful meeting with Ms. Sunita Dangol, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), to discuss the pressing geriatric health issues, care, and social concerns of older persons in Kathmandu.
During the meeting, GSN handed over the “Age-Friendly City” Concept to the Deputy Mayor- a vision to make Kathmandu a city where every older person can live with dignity, inclusion, and support.
Together, we move one step closer to building a caring and compassionate city for all ages.

Sometimes, the most powerful acts of kindness are the quiet ones that no one expects.

In this photo, a fast food manager noticed a mother struggling to fill out a job application while holding her baby. Instead of just watching, she stepped forward, reached out her arms, and and offered to hold her baby so she could focus.

For a few precious minutes, that exhausted mother could write freely, her hands no longer trembling from the weight of both her child and her worries.

That single gesture didn’t just make her day easier. It gave her dignity.

It reminded her that even in a world that often feels cold and indifferent, there are still people who see, who care, and who help without expecting anything in return.

Behind that counter wasn’t just a manager. It was a human being choosing compassion over convenience. A stranger who understood that strength sometimes needs a moment of rest.

This is what humanity looks like when it’s at its best, when one person’s kindness gives another the courage to keep fighting for a better life.
