Karuna Foundation is a young and dynamic entrepreneurial development organization, founded in 2007, with an office in Arnhem and in her project area, Nepal. Karuna Foundation strives to decrease the number of birth defects and disabilities among children in developing countries, by improving existing health systems and empowering poor communities and vulnerable groups within these communities, suc

The first meeting of the DPRP Directive Committee of Lumbini Province was held on 20 April 2026 under the chairmanship of Hon. Minister of Social Development, Mr Janmajaya Timilsina. The meeting concluded with key decisions to guide program implementation. All 27 local levels of Rolpa, Bardiya, Rukum East, and Arghakhanchi were selected as the first batch based on indicators such as disability prevalence, population, poverty, literacy, and HDI.

The committee also decided to request budget allocation for program implementation in FY 2083/084 from the province, local levels, and the federal ministry, along with organizing orientation for key representatives of selected local levels and initiating the partner selection process.

These decisions mark an important step toward institutionalizing DPRP, strengthening government ownership, and ensuring sustainable and inclusive services at the local level.

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, a special program was organized at Biratnagar Mahanagar Autism Sewa Kendra, bringing together children, parents, and stakeholders to celebrate inclusion and awareness.

The event featured engaging activities such as dance, games, and interactive sessions, encouraging participation and social interaction. Children also showcased their creativity through materials they prepared, highlighting their abilities and potential. A heartfelt moment included parents reciting poems dedicated to their children, reflecting love and lived experiences.

Karuna Foundation Nepal, as the technical support partner, continues to support the center in strengthening services and promoting inclusive practices. Such initiatives play an important role in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and fostering a more inclusive society.

Karuna Foundation Nepal had the opportunity to meet with the Hon’ble Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Ms. Sita Badi, at her office for a meaningful discussion on the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program (DPRP).

The discussion focused on DPRP’s comprehensive approach to early identification, prevention, rehabilitation, and inclusive community engagement. Emphasis was placed on the need to scale up the program beyond Koshi Province, in alignment with Nepal’s 16th Development Plan, to expand its reach and impact across other provinces.

The Hon’ble Minister expressed her appreciation for the initiative, recognizing its significant contribution to improving the lives of persons with disabilities and strengthening inclusive systems. She also acknowledged the effectiveness of the DPRP model and its importance in advancing inclusion at a national level.

We are encouraged by this positive recognition and look forward to continued collaboration to scale up DPRP across the country.

Under the Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program (DPRP), Gauradaha Municipality, Jhapa ,organized street-level awareness drama on rights and entitlements (हक अधिकार) across different locations.

The initiative focused on informing persons with disabilities, their families and general public about services such as disability identity cards, social protection, assistive devices, inclusive education, and healthcare access.

Such grassroots efforts help bridge the gap between policies and people, ensuring no one is left behind.

Spreading warmth, care, and meaningful knowledge at the start of a new journey 💌

In collaboration with local governments and community members across different palikas, ‘Best Wishes Cards’ were shared with newly married couples, celebrating their union while equipping them with essential information for a healthy and informed future.
