Tibetan Snowcock (Tetraogallus tibetanus)
The Tibetan Snowcock is a familiar sight in the high valleys of the Khumbu — often seen wandering across rocky slopes near Everest Base Camp, with Everest and Nuptse rising proudly behind.
Hardy and perfectly adapted to life above 4,000 meters, this alpine bird adds to the natural charm of the Everest region — reminding trekkers that these mountains are alive with wildlife and stories.
• Lives between 4,000–5,500 meters
• Prefers rocky slopes, alpine meadows & glacial valleys
• Feeds on grasses, shoots, roots, seeds, and small insects
• Known for its loud, echoing calls early in the morning
• Often seen in small groups and well camouflaged against rocky terrain
