From young minds to older generations, OUCRU Nepal's community engagement in Kathmandu Wards 12 and 14 brought people together to learn about Influenza and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a meaningful step toward building informed and healthier communities.

The sessions were conducted with women’s groups and sahakari groups (cooperative groups), using an interactive and participatory approach. Each session included pre- and post-test assessments to measure knowledge gained and reinforce learning.

Medical doctors from OUCRU Nepal facilitated the sessions, leading discussions on Influenza and AMR through engaging methods such as Q&A, group discussions, and interactive activities, ensuring active participation across different age groups.

Study Close-Out Meeting Successfully Conducted!

OUCRU Nepal successfully organized the Study Close-Out Meeting for the project on “Feasibility of Using Real-Time AI Monitoring in Hospitalized Patients with Community-Acquired Pneumonia and Suspected Sepsis”
Conducted at Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, this study explored the use of low-cost, non-invasive wearable devices for continuous patient monitoring. The preliminary findings highlight the potential of using wearable devices to remotely monitor critically ill patients, to ease the burden on healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries like Nepal.
🙏 We extend our sincere gratitude to all collaborators, healthcare professionals, and participants who made this project possible.

We remember Professor Sir Nicholas John White as an extraordinary scientist, mentor, and friend to so many of us at OUCRU and beyond. His work transformed malaria treatment globally and saved millions of lives. His legacy will continue to guide and inspire future generations.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Sir Nicholas John White, one of the most respected figures in modern infectious disease research.

Nick was central to the establishment of OUCRU in Vietnam in 1991, working closely with local hospitals and partners to help build one of the country’s first malaria research labs. That early work laid the foundations for OUCRU to grow into the rigorous clinical research programme it is today, with four units across Asia.

Through his work on malaria, Nick helped shape global treatment policy and contributed to saving millions of lives. At a time of widespread drug resistance, he led a team to generate the clinical evidence that underpinned the adoption of artemisinin-based combination therapies for Plasmodium falciparum malaria, and intravenous artesunate for severe cases. These treatments have since been used in more than a billion patients worldwide.

To colleagues at OUCRU and across the globe, Nick was not only an outstanding scientist but also a mentor and trusted friend. His legacy lives on through the advances in care his work supported, the partnerships he helped build, and the many people he inspired.
