Our Story

KOSHISH is the voice of people living with mental health distress.

KOSHISH’s Strategy is a rights-based approach following a twin track model. Firstly, assist people living with mental health problems manage their issues and find support. Secondly, we advocate for the implementation and continuous updates of mental health policies and programs in Nepal. During our projects and work we emphasize community level support and participation, as this makes us able to provide a holistic support system (clinical, psychological and social).

KOSHISH has been working on mental health and psycho-social issues since 2004. It was established by an individual who had himself experienced mental health and psycho-social issues, Mr. Matrika Devkota. He first began by voluntarily rescuing and rehabilitating people living with mental health problems and In 2008, established KOSHISH as a national, non-profit self help NGO.

By demonstrating that mental health and psycho-social issues are manageable and curable, we have been able to help people living on the street, rescue and then reintegrate them back into their own communities through various programs.
