Our Story
Urmi-Handloom is a small-scale cottage industry. It was officially registered in July 1999 under the HMG act of Nepal as a Handloom industry. It is established in effort to employ and empower underprivileged women of the country. It is situated in the City of Lalitpur Sub-Municipality of Nepal, the city of Arts and Crafts.
Founder of the Organization is Late Mrs. Urmila Shrestha, who recently passed away after a long struggle from Motor Neuron Disease. Throughout her life she was working in Nepal Bank Limited the first commercial bank in Nepal where she was Deputy General Manager of the Entire bank and General Manager as well. She was the president of Business and Professional Women, Patan Chapter now. She has established the cottage industry to empower local underprivileged women.
The industry produces typical handloom pure cotton, 100 % pashmina and woolen products. To make quality fabrics we dye cotton threads processed in natural way, swiss dye and vegetable dye have been implemented to make quality in color which last for long.
With the versatility of hand woven materials, the industry has been creating different items. As such Urmi-handloom is specialized in export quality woolen shawls, pashmina products, 100% cotton Yoga mat, floor mat and place mat.
Al these products are made in typical handlooms with extra care.
