-Prof Ashok Bal left for his heavenly abode last night. His younger daughter is in Dubai and would be reaching Aligarh tonight while the elder daughter is in UK and will not be able to come. Cremation is fixed for tomorrow. I had the good fortune of working under him. Prof Ashok Bal had a hard exterior but was in fact a very soft and kind hearted man. He would read any new book that would come to the library and read extensively before he went as examiner. A hard task master, he never asked of others that he wouldnot do himself. A very able administrator , he was credited with being the youngest professor in AMU and was also acting Vice Chancellor. Of late he was at home in Aligarh after his stints in Dehradoon and Nepal.
