Recently we had our Christmas in the Park. Kaiako had set up a candy floss, shaved ice and popcorn stall, as well as a bouncy castle and a place for face painting. Other kaiako had been busy making all sorts of food for our lunch. Everyone had fun running around the park, the bouncy castle, the stalls and the surrounding fields. Eventually we sat down to sing Christmas Carols. When we had finished Santa was there to hand out presents to everyone.

Big ngā mihi to all of our kaiako and kaiāwhina whose hard work made Christmas in the Park possible. Also a big shout out to our tamariki and whānau who came along and had lots of fun!

Here are a couple of pictures from our Christmas in the Park 🎅

🇨🇱 Felices Fiestas Patrias 🇨🇱

Today we celebrated another year of Chile's Independence Day! Izzy and Giara told us about their country this morning.

Izzy also came through with Chilean cultural dress and items. We danced, sung and had lots of fun ❤

For the month of August we are celebrating art by thinking outside of our usual boxes and creating pieces to display for our whānau and manuhiri.

The Tui room has been busy making drums! They're on display in our main hallway right now if you want to check them out.

Today we had a super special visit from Little Bo Peeps Mobile Farm Ltd 🐑

Farmer Fleur came with a collection of farm animals to meet us - two goats (one of which was an enthusiastic kid), a chicken, a rabbit, a sheep, two ponies, a llama and an alpaca. Farmer Fleur reminded us that we had to use gentle hands to pet her animals' back and that they had already been fed so we didn't need to worry. Our tamariki were all ears!

We were able to gently pet all of the animals and even have a short ride on Cricket the Pony. Big special thanks to Farmer Fleur who had an engaging kōrero with our preschoolers beforehand, hauled a massive trailer filled with farm animals to see us and patiently led our tamariki around for Pony rides.

Our tamariki had a great time - please ask about it at home!

Just as the Pukeko room has been busy with their Olympic celebrations the Tui (Toddlers) room has been, too.

Here they are completing the (3m) hurdles and getting into the spirit with painting the Olympic torch and Olympic rings.

In the Pukeko (Preschool) Room we have been excited about the Olympics. We've been following NZ's athletes closely, talking about and watching different events in the classroom and reading books about the different athletes. To celebrate the 2024 Olympics in the Pukeko Room we decided to hold our own mini games.

We split ourselves into three different groups: Red Rangers, Yellow Stars and Green Butterflies. We made signs, wore our respective colours and made flags to march under. Our tamariki competed in three different events: Spoon Race, Sack Race and Tug-o-War. Everyone had a lot of fun taking part and (due to each team winning one event), everyone got a chocolate and a special sticker at the end.

Shout-out to the Assistant Coordinator, Daanbir, who was out of the games due to injury so helped out kaiako Judy.

Happy Monday!

To kick the week off right in the Pukeko room we have morning yoga time. It's a simple session that focuses on breathing and stretching our bodies to ease us into the week.

Everyone knows the routine - the bell will go for yoga time and those who want to participate will grab a blue yoga mat. Shoes come off, mats are unraveled and tamariki find an open spot. This week Jaspreet took us through some moves - here's a couple snapshots of what that looks like 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️

We had another furry visitor at TKM!

Kaiako Robyn brought in Astro to visit us. He's a young fluffy Maine C**n which meant he had lots of energy. He was very friendly. Kaiako Robyn told us a little bit about cats, what they ate and what they liked to do all day. It sparked a lot of discussions throughout the rest of the day - the cats we have at home, the cats we know and the ones we may see on our streets.

Thanks to Kaiako Robyn for bringing in her furry friend and we hope to see him again!

Yesterday we had to say a heartfelt goodbye to Harleen who has been a kaiako at TKM in the babies and toddlers room for a wee while now. We wish her love and good fortune in her new mahi and hope she comes back to visit us soon!

Today we had a special visitor come to TKM!

Kaiako Wai brought in her family dog (Maia) to spend some time with our tamariki. Maia's an older pittie/staffie mutt that is used to being around small children so was a great candidate to come in and say hi to our kids.

We noticed that a few of our tamariki have never come into contact with dogs so doing so in a controlled environment is a great way to introduce them. Everyone did very well!

In the next few weeks we will hopefully be bringing in more friendly animals to introduce to our kids. If you have a pet at home that you wouldn't mind sharing, please tell one of the kaiako in your room.
