We know paperwork can be a chore, so we tried to make it a little more fun đŸ€© and a little better for the planet 🌍 with digital check-in and forms.

We use and the iPad stand for our patients to check-in. For first time patients at the Browns Bay clinic the forms can take 5 - 10 mins to fill out so make sure you come a little early. But don’t worry after that check-in takes a couple of seconds 😉

Is Shockwave Therapy Safe If You’re on Blood Thinners or After Cortisone?

Short answer: no — but it depends on the drug, dose, timing, and your clinical picture.

Below is a link to a blog where I outline how shockwave therapy works, why anticoagulants and recent steroid injections alter the risk–benefit balance, and what we typically advise at our Auckland clinic (we utilise EMS Swiss DolorClast radial and focused devices).

This is the first randomized controlled trial to demonstrate that radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy is an effective treatment option for structural muscle injuries in professional athletes.

The study has already attracted great attention in Australia, where Dr Christoph Schmitz and his team used it as the foundation for their new campaign: “Speeding up rehabilitation with high-energy radial shock wave therapy, without causing harm.”

Shockwave Therapy can reduce Substance P & help with pain Modulation - it reduces concentrations of substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in treated tissues and dorsal root ganglia, disrupting neurogenic inflammation and lowering pain signalling (Maier et al., 2003; Hausdorf et al., 2008).

Why is this important? Many patients spend months undergoing comprehensive graduated loading as part of their rehabilitation. This is great IF there is no neurogenic inflammation. For tendons to regenerate neurogenic inflammation must be resolved. And remember not all shockwave devices are equal, many sound the same and cause pain but do produce cavitations or consistent pressure across all frequencies.

We’re excited to announce that Movement Mechanics now integrates Tend Focus and Tend Deep into our advanced treatment toolkit.

These evidence-based technologies deliver high-energy, targeted acoustic waves designed to treat stubborn MSK conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles and patellar tendinopathy, rotator-cuff issues, GTPS, tennis elbow, hamstring tendinopathy and chronic myofascial pain.

Tend Focus provides highly concentrated energy for precision targeting, while Tend Deep allows greater pe*******on for chronic, load-bearing injuries. Both are backed by strong clinical research and are widely used in progressive musculoskeletal clinics worldwide.

Importantly, Tend doesn’t replace hands-on therapy — it enhances it. By combining high-energy shockwave with osteopathic assessment, manual therapy and load-based rehab, we can reduce pain, improve tissue function and accelerate your return to movement.

Tend Focus and Tend Deep are now available at Movement Mechanics. Movement Matters.

Meet Vincent (Vinny) the other half of the Movement Mechanics Osteopath team. After working in Australia, he returned to West Auckland to support his local community. Vincent’s approach focuses on treating the cause of injury, preventing recurrence, and empowering patients with knowledge to maintain long-term wellbeing. With a background in rugby and baseball/softball, Vincent has a strong interest in sports performance, injury prevention, and rehabilitation, reflected in his research with a Super Rugby franchise on movement patterns linked to injury.

New flooring finally in. Was important to us to ensure that as many of the materials we use were natural, sustainable and circular. We chose hard flooring for the reception area and hallways and wool carpet for the clinic rooms. Not only do we want to improve our patients health with our hands-on therapy, we want them to be in a healthy environment full of natural materials and less nasties.
