Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT), also known as high-power laser therapy, utilises specific wavelengths of light to stimulate a photochemical response within tissues. The EMS DolorClast® Laser delivers pulses at 905 nm, a wavelength chosen for its ability to pe*****te deeply into muscle, tendon, fascia, and joint tissues without being absorbed by blood or melanin. This interaction with cell structures promotes healing.

High Power Laser therapy has the ability of Boosting Cellular Energy - Light is absorbed by mitochondria (the “power stations” of your cells). This leads to short bursts of ATP (energy), nitric oxide (which improves blood flow), and controlled bursts of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Together, these act as pro-healing signals that help tissue recover faster (Hamblin, 2017).

Discover the clinical power of EMS DolorClast® High-Power Laser Therapy at Movement Mechanics Osteopathy. This advanced, non-invasive treatment sits at the forefront of modern musculoskeletal care, offering an effective alternative to medication and invasive procedures. Here’s why it stands out:

Non-Invasive Pain Relief:
High-power laser therapy delivers targeted light energy deep into tissue without needles or surgery, making it a safe and comfortable option for acute and chronic pain.

Pain Reduction & Inflammation Control:
Clinically shown to reduce pain and inflammation in conditions such as tendinopathy, joint pain, muscle strains, and nerve-related pain by modulating pain pathways and inflammatory mediators.

Enhanced Blood Flow & Healing:
Using a therapeutic 905 nm wavelength, laser therapy stimulates microcirculation and oxygen delivery, supporting faster repair of muscles, tendons, and joints.

Accelerated Recovery:
By improving cellular metabolism and ATP production, laser therapy helps shorten recovery times and supports a quicker return to movement, work, and sport.

Cellular Repair & Regeneration:
Beyond symptom relief, laser therapy promotes tissue repair at a cellular level, supporting long-term healing rather than short-term pain suppression.

Why Laser Therapy at Movement Mechanics?

Evidence-Led Care:
Our laser protocols are grounded in current research and integrated into a broader osteopathic treatment plan.

Precision Technology:
High-power laser allows us to tailor dosage and depth for each condition and individual.

Integrated Expertise:
Often combined with Shockwave Therapy, manual therapy, and rehabilitation for optimal outcomes.

Comfort-Focused Treatment:
Treatments are fast, comfortable, and carefully dosed — with safety considerations for skin type and tattoos always prioritised.

Because pain shouldn’t dictate how you move.
Movement matters.

Radial vs Focused Shockwave Therapy 🇨🇭
What’s the difference – and does it actually matter?

If you’ve been told “shockwave therapy will help” but no one’s explained which type or why, you’re not alone.

It’s not about which one is “better”.

✔️ It’s about delivering the right energy, to the right tissue, at the right depth, to trigger real biological repair — not just short-term pain relief.

In our latest blog, we break down:
• Radial vs focused shockwave (without the marketing fluff)
• What actually happens inside your tissues (angiogenesis, collagen remodelling, pain modulation)
• Why device quality and clinical decision-making matter
• How we integrate shockwave with osteopathy for longer-term results

Proud moments from our first first CPD training day and onboarding of 2026 🤝 🇨🇭

At Movement Mechanics, we don’t just provide shockwave therapy to our patients, we help shape how it’s practised. As Auckland’s leading provider of Shockwave Therapy, we take genuine pride in supporting the wider medical and allied-health community through education, mentorship, and evidence-led training.

Our Clinical Director Jonathan Hall, New Zealand KOL for EMS DolorClast®, recently onboarded Henry Guo and his team, guiding them through the clinical application, parameters, and decision-making that underpin effective radial shockwave care.

Sharing knowledge, case studies, elevating standards, and advancing musculoskeletal care across Aotearoa because when clinicians grow, patients benefit.

Movement matters. And so does how we treat it.

Why do we use shock wave devices? 🤔 In short - high quality research and devices that work 😉

The modality is great for treating musculoskeletal pain, including osteoarthritis with research showing it improves WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index) scores for pain, stiffness, and function, as the treatment stimulates natural healing and reduces inflammation, often making it a good alternative to injections or surgery for chronic issues like knee OA.

Pain doesn’t just affect movement, it affects how you feel in your body.

Walking in at 8/10 pain and walking out pain-free after a course of shockwave therapy isn’t about shortcuts or hype.
It’s about the right assessment, the right technology, and clear communication every step of the way.

State-of-the-art shockwave therapy.
Thoughtful, evidence-based care.
A calm space where healing can actually begin.

Movement matters.

Why is your tendon injury not improving despite a graduated loading program 🤔 Tendon regeneration in the presence of tendinopathy requires the following prerequisites:
1.Neurogenic inflammation must be resolved.2.Stem cells must be able to (re)express scleraxis.

Here’s the research 🔬

Brandt et al., Int J Mol Sci 2018;19(9):2549:

When adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are exposed to proinflamma-tory molecules (specifically, interleukin 1-beta and TNF-alpha),they no longer express scleraxis and fail to grow on a tendon scaf-fold. Both of these are the case in the absence of interleukin 1-beta and TNF-alpha.

Ansel et al., J Immunol 1993;150(10):4478-85 and Inoume et al., J Neurochem 1999;73(5):2206-13:

Interleukin 1-beta and TNF-alpha play important roles in neurogenic inflammation, which is probably the basis of most tendinopathies.

Latest blog post is live ☺️ after spending time at an osteopathic clinic blindly pushing shockwave therapy I became a massive skeptic. So I did my due diligence and got stuck in to the literature- conclusion, not all shockwaves are equal. That’s why at Movement Mechanics we only integrate shock wave therapy using EMS DolorClast® devices read the blog to find out why.

Return to play after treating acute muscle injuries in elite football players with radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy.

Morgan J, Hamm M, Schmitz C, Brem M J Orthop Surg Res 2021

Lay-off times (median /mean) were shortened by 54% and 58% respectively in the case of Type 1a injuries, by 50% and 55% respectively in the case of Type 2b injuries as well as by 8% and 21% respectively in the case of Type 3a injuries. No adverse reactions were observed.

Shockwave Therapy Safe If You’re on Blood Thinners or After Cortisone?

Short answer: sometimes, but it depends on the drug, dose, timing, and your clinical picture. Below, I outline how shockwave therapy works, why anticoagulants and recent steroid injections alter the risk–benefit balance, and what we typically advise at our Auckland clinic (we utilise EMS Swiss DolorClast radial and focused devices).
