🌻 Hey Lovely Ladies, 🌻

Are you doing all the right things and yet the scale keeps going up?

Peri-menopause and menopause can cause you to gain weight that feels like it's totally out of your control.

Women often feel self-conscious, worried something deeper is going on, annoyed that no one warned them and feel like their identity is shifting.

Why are you gaining weight during peri-menopause / menopause?

As your hormones estrogen and progesterone fluctuate and eventually drop, you body becomes more insulin-resistant. This means it burns fat less efficiently, stores more belly fat, reacts more to stress, and struggles with sleep.

There’s also a natural shift toward higher androgen (hormone) levels. These hormones are important for energy, libido, motivation, and metabolism. When androgens are at higher levels, they can cause belly weight gain, skin changes, and shifts in body shape.

Some common signs of insulin resistance include :
- Weight gain around the middle
- Skin tags
- High cholesterol or triglycerides
- Fatigue
- Sugar cravings
- Afternoon energy crashes
- Brain fog
- Acanthosis nigricans - dark, thick velvety skin in body folds such as your armpits, groin and neck.
- PCOS increases your risk of insulin resistance.

Some important things to remember:
💛 Your symptoms are real, not imagined.
💛 Your metabolism is changing, not failing.
💛 Weight gain is common and reversible.

Hi Lovelies,

I went to a doll-making workshop last week and I had so much fun. I never thought I would ever do something like this.

A huge thank you to Nina on Instagram and Leela Toys For Tiny Hands, you both made this experience so enjoyable and nurturing 💐.

It was challenging and there were definitely moments of “wait, how do I do this?”.

I created something from scratch with natural materials and knowing it’ll be a gift for my son, it felt so special.

What makes this doll meaningful is exactly what I love about Naturopathy too:

✨ It’s mostly natural
✨ It’s something that can be treasured long-term
✨ It’s simple, imaginative and grounded
✨ It all came together one small step at a time
✨ I received support and guidance along the way

Hey Lovelies,

✨ Ever have one of those weekends where something simple ends up teaching you a deeper life lesson? ✨

Visited the beautiful Valerie and Ray at AquaRays over the weekend with my son and wow, what a wholesome little adventure it turned out to be.

From tropical beauties to freshwater favourites, my son was in absolute heaven, every tank brought a new moment of joy.

What really stayed with me was something Valerie said about keeping fish healthy and creating the right environment so they can thrive.

For so many women going through hormonal imbalances, peri-menopause or menopause, it’s the same thing.

Our bodies aren’t “broken”, they just need the right environment to feel balanced again.

When things are out of sync - stress, sleep, food, emotional load…etc., it’s like putting a tropical fish in a foreign environment and of course it struggles to be healthy and live well.

When you restore the environment, you feel calmer, clearer, more energised and like yourself again.

It was such a peaceful, grounding experience, and a little reminder to care for our own ecosystems too.

✨ Left Tired…Walked Out Energised. ✨

Hey Everyone,

It’s been one of those big weeks, the kind where you feel equal parts proud, stretched and a little exhausted.

I went to my first LinkedIn Local Auckland event a few nights ago.

I left this event feeling inspired, a little emotional and completely uplifted after hearing two incredible speakers share their personal stories.

Their vulnerability and courage were exactly the reminder I needed: connection truly fuels us.

I absolutely loved meeting so many wonderful humans.

A massive thank you to Keri Little and Stuart Little for hosting such a fabulous event.

I loved the goodie bags. Being plant-based and a non-alcohol drinker, I usually prepare myself to eat mostly vegetables at events.

This time I actually got to enjoy food and drinks that aligned with my lifestyle, genuinely one of the best event spreads I’ve had.

👩‍🔬 From a Naturopath and Food Scientist’s perspective:

Events like this remind me how much our environment influences our wellbeing, especially for women navigating hormonal imbalances, peri-menopause, or menopause.

When we’re overwhelmed, stretched thin, or carrying invisible stress, our hormones feel it first.

Moments of connection, inspiration, nourishing food and a sense of belonging act like a reset button for the nervous system.

Last night was exactly that, a gentle and unexpected reset.

A reminder that support, community and the right kind of nourishment (emotional and nutritional) make a world of difference.

Hey Lovelies,

Did you know stress isn’t just emotional?

Stress includes physical stress like strength training, running or any kind of exercise? 🏋🏾‍♀️

I had my Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) session yesterday with Amanda from Resonate EMS Studio and it was the first day of my period for the month.

Now, cancelling didn’t even cross my mind because I love how movement makes me feel! however I did let Amanda know and asked for a less intense session.

Because here’s the thing, movement is amazing for keeping our hormones happy and balanced however during those more sensitive times, gentler movement is often what our body truly needs.

During my period I notice:
✨ I’m more sensitive
✨ I have more muscle pain than usual
✨ I tire more easily
..after a workout.

How about you? Do you notice a difference in how your body feels after a workout during your cycle?

When our bodies are already busy doing their hormonal thing, we don’t need to push harder - we need to be kinder, slower and gentler with ourselves.
